If you look at the other handhelds that spawned from Steam Deck they're often more powerful but compromised in other areas. A more apt comparison is Switch 1 as it was released during its lifetime. Personally I don't think Valve was looking to compete directly with Switch, they're trying to decouple their software from Windows to Linux and introduce new input methods to mobile (trackpads). Start looking at the series through this lens & the design really shines. The engine is tuned for this, and hitboxes are excellent especially for a prerendered game. Most every time someone bad mouths DKC it's usually because they didn't explore the mechanics of the game, or played the GBA ones

Switch 1 seems bland but it was huge to have a hybrid handheld like that. Now we have Steam Deck and etc. and their IP seems like it's keeping them afloat (not bad tho). As for devs not utilizing what's there, they should, every console since Wii has cool hardware that mostly wasn't used creatively

It just seems like a step back and takes away from made their brand unique. I think they might have more to reveal about the console, but Switch 1 seemed like a transitional phase into their "investor era" after Iwata who took a lot of risks. Just surprised because they usually innovate hardware.

I think people forget 3DS was not a runaway success. It was initially unsuccessful until the price came down, and they gave away free games to the early loyalists. Ultimately it won because smartphones hadn't hit the big time and Sony was the only competitor in the space, with a higher end handheld.

Most people aren't even aware that this is a big part of the culture in the Japanese arcades where these games were made and thrived, maybe that kind of repetitive gameplay in the name of building skill still won't appeal to them. But educating them that is the design intention is just as important.

In the best arcade games you don't really understand the nuance without putting that time in. You can have a great time credit feeding through Final Fight, but you really understand the routing and gameplay when starting from the beginning each time for the 1cc. It will just seem solid but shallow

Good find! Yeah this makes more sense given the sprite art is more professional looking than the illustration imo. With a quick look over I thought the sprite was translated from the illustration and not the other way around. The shading is pretty wonky

Yeah with Proton compatibility I have little reason to stick with Windows for my games besides VR support.. one day... maybe I'll start dual booting

WOW I didn't know this... always thought that was a distinct sprite art style created for this game carried from Panel De Pon

But hearing Jarobi with the first verse and being like, oh shit he can actually rap? Phife in top form (with what little they had to work with), the insane production, Busta stealing the show again, people they influenced in guest verses, the little recurring samples.. great album

Like I love Low End & MM, but Low End has Skypager (dated) and I can't really play MM front to back (white guy problems lol). I love all the songs but We Got it From Here is more relevant especially now, it's a shame they couldn't tour for it and it didn't have any major charting singles

Also the lead up to the album was incredible. After Phife passed I thought that was going to be it, then the announcement and thinking it would never live up to the hype, the wait, and then it blowing away all my expectations. Probably my favorite moment ever as a music fan

So cool! The added momentum from slopes really adds a whole new layer to X's dynamic, and is the logical step in bringing the style to 3D. Y'all have made one of my favorite 3D platformers, period. To you and your team, THANK YOU!

EGM was great. I like that they reached out to independent artists for a lot of spreads instead of always going with concept art packages provided by the developers. They had a really awesome poster for one of their milestone that encompassed all genres, prob my favorite one across gaming media

Cloudbuilt and Super Cloudbuilt are basically Mega Man X in 3D. No bosses, though.

Another whistleblower, from OpenAI this time, was mysteriously found dead again. So step out of line and get handled quick. Americans only hope is that we all come together to fight corruption but our society was manufactured to keep everyone divided with the status quo. Nothing new, sad though

It's straightforward, has a lot of polish, and plays it pretty safe overall. I won't say I didn't have a lot of fun playing Astro Bot but it was mostly because of the spectacle. Old concepts are cool and Asobi is capable, they just need to be more ambitious, AB PS5 felt design by committee at parts.

Astro Bot was already a blank slate but I prefer that they were using it to show off tech. Now it's just for brand pandering, Astro Bot is now more company mascot than representation of a gameplay concept. Nintendo is a lot better at not straying from the ideas that make their characters work.

I totally agree, and I feel like they threw out the identity of the IP and made it more generic. Astro Bot Rescue Mission was a great showcase for PSVR, likewise for the PS5 demo for DualSense. The new game is aimless and a step back in showcasing the technology, it's just more of the same.

Social media puts out extremely divisive bait, many posters aren't even real people at all but the effect is the same.. The public is unprepared to discern even the current, faulty AI of today from reality which is the real threat as it can manipulate at an unprecedented level.

I don't know too much about Bluesky. I just left because I wanted a Twitter alternative without Zuck or Elon, though OG Twitter played a role in shaping narratives also. Most people don't really know "what's going on" until you tell them and corporations control almost all public opinion.

There is definitely a segment of the younger generation that is MORE susceptible to radicalization, so it's more dangerous overall on those successfully targeted. But I think conversations are shifting in a more open direction among the general population.

It's really weird because they missed the boat. Would have worked during the dudebro era on a wider scale, this generation embraces a wider variety of gaming subculture. Retro is mainstream in a way now more than ever.

Other than that you'll be missing some social features on the Quest 1, so you have to be realistic about what you're willing to accept. But for under $100 you've got a great portable gaming machine with a selection of dozens of games still
