There's no reason to trust them, either. Sad to say but there is no reason to trust anything coming out of this Administration. This is so far outside of the norm. In the past if a lie was told by or at the direction of a president it was a big deal and scandal. Under Trump it's business as usual.
The problem is that the law no longer applies to "official acts" of the President and this, whatever else it may have been, was clearly an "official act". Thanks, United States Supreme Court!

I actually think CJ Roberts believed this could all be controlled (and a Constitutional crisis averted) and the "official acts" immunity would remain limited. I think he suffered, like so many in this era, from a failure of imagination.

In Trump v. US the United States Supreme Court placed the president (not just this president, any president) above the law and went a very long way toward destroying the rule of law in the United States.
And by the way, whatever the legality of the bombing, it was clearly an official act. Therefore Trump cannot be held criminally liable. Criminal liability for subordinates - possible. But the pardon power also exists.
Great point. Whatever legal lines that strike crossed, there is no question under Trump v. US it was an "official act" and therefore he cannot ever be prosecuted for it.
You'd think we'd have learned that lesson from the Prohibition era. All Prohibition did was make gangsters wealthy.
To be perfectly clear, the President has now crossed a line in my opinion into outright murder of foreign nationals on the high seas. Alleged drug smugglers. Not many lines left before he is ordering the murder of American citizens for crimes, real or imagined.
