Being autistic in 1997 means meltdowns for me. 2025 means still meltdowns. My meltdowns don't go away as I got older, I'm just able to manage them better than when I was 10. That is all.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
This plays a huge part in why I don't agree with the whole level system at all. I relate so much to what you're saying with this.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Being autistic is wanting so much for people to be respectful for how you are. Yet all the years that do go by, always someone that ain't respectful for how you are.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Hope you're able to take care nicola ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic life is not wanting to be lonely. Autistic life is also wanting to be alone.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic life at social events. Inside, it felt like hell. Outside, it looked like I was happy.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
"You're not like everyone else" Autistic me: "That's right I'm not, but at least I'm being me and not trying to fit in with others by being fake" ๐คช
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Why does the 90s feel like its 10 years ago when it's actually not.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic me is confused how people have energy throughout the day when I barely seem to have any. Story of my life.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh I don't know. It's a documentary talking about someone's way of life.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
He's talking to someone tonight on channel 5 at 9pm that is. Well it's pre recorded.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Disappointed in what he had to say today to be honest.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Ben fogle really needs to educate himself on autism. Not "everyone does have a slightly autistic mind" And Not "everyone is on the spectrum"
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
No fogle we're not all on the spectrum. Disappointed in your words today on the tv. #autistic

Well said.

And people still living in 1957 even though it was never ever right thing to do back then or before. But here we are.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Why don't people grasp this.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Just abit of a heads up here. Never ever tell someone who is autistic to be or act a certain way. It's not just going to catch you completely out but may also lead to completely messing up the autistics head for the rest of the day or more. Being respectful goes along way.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Has it got better in 2025 all these years later?! I don't believe it has, yes there's far more information about these days and more people are talking about autism but.. At the end if the day it's STILL EXPECTED to just get on.. you're 18 now.. just get on. Not acceptable at all. Rant over.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember even going into my 20s feeling like I got thrown into the world without support or a user's guide at all. You will learn and adapt, you have to.. yes I did and it was tough but it shouldn't be like that at all.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Everyone is too busy in their own life to notice, or care, whether or not you're overwhelmed in public, that's the reality of being autistic adult. We all inherently make exceptions for children, but not as an adult, you're on your own like everyone else. It shouldn't be like this.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
There is people out there that are autistic and are simply bad to be around. Some will try to use you, then throw you away. No matter where you go in the world. As autistics we must learn how to filter out the bad ones. Not easy. Meaning, leave them behind, once you notice any potential red flags.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
The bottom line is my head was telling me no, I'm not like others, how can that be fun, just no.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic life was instead of going out at 18 and into my 20s I was just sitting in my room developing all these what feels useless emotional depth that you can't really do anything with. I could've just partied instead. and had fun. and felt alive. When I was young and most free and able to do so.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Me too.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I used to think this.. alot. But it got to the point of what's the point.. it changes nothing and wasn't great for my wellbeing. Take care.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree with this so much.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm hopeful one that they will.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah that aswell.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Someone that doesn't have a clue.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
"Oh you're autistic so you like reading dictionaries" I don't actually. I also plan to read many books but never actually get round to read many books.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic me: Iโm lonely, I should try to spend time with others. Also autistic me: Iโm so exhausted, anxious and overwhelmed. I donโt have the energy, focus or mindset necessary for me to meaningfully connect with others and have positive interactions at this time.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Some autistic people don't speak, some speak a lot. Some stim, some don't. Some avoid eye contact, some don't. Autism isnโt just one story. Itโs a library full of wonderful people.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
It is indeed ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
The whole soundtrack should for me ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Awesome performance. I only tuned in just for that tonight.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm literally just tuning in to this tonight just for the music of clair obscur.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Ah I see your point.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
After waking up today it seems lots of people relate to this one. Part 2 of my list for autistic me. Waiting to go out.. music. Seeing someone you ain't seen for a while.. music. Discontinued product from shop.. music. After spending time at a family event.. music. Basically music is awesome.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm hoping they do at least a couple of songs tonight. Until next life and lum are my favourite two ๐ Have a good day.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
This is such a good idea.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't agree with the whole low to mild or moderate. You're ethier autistic or not, that is just the way I see life. I may post about this one day for my reasonings why. I get on the best with I can, because.. well I have no choice, I am how I am and that's that. Welcome to Bluesky.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I just have one playlist of 299. Split between vocals and without.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a good question. For me my playlist consists of 299 songs or types of music, some with lyrics and some not. I really update the list but it covers all what I'm feeling. Why 299.. I actually don't know.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent

Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
It's all about the music ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Nothing resets my autistic brain quite like music does. Feeling stressed.. music. Feeling anxious.. music. Meltdown.. music. Burned the hell out.. music. Getting judged by others.. music. Uncomfortable in new areas.. music. The list goes on. If in doubt.. music.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I think your on to something here richard ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
To expand further on what I said earlier. To the people that judge, I'm simply a better human not being around these people. Why should I have any regrets about being autistic, when there is nothing I can do to alter people's views on me. Surround yourself with the good people, not the bad.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Anytime Soren. Take care.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Hello Soren, this is fair enough. You have to look after number one, which is yourself. I currently have my DM's turned off. I find extended breaks away from here helps me alot, I'm due another one.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Worth a look. The soundtrack is beautiful.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
While I did enjoy this performance I think of songs like until next life from clair obscur will be incredible and possibly one of the best ever at the game awards this year. If they do them that is.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
People can and will judge you for not being a certain way. Especially if it's nothing like them. The thing is, autistic me will not pretend to be a certain way to fit in with others. Why not ? Because it wouldn't be me. At least when people call out my behaviour I'm being myself. Be yourself.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
And when someone doesn't leave that part off I say, my brain doesn't work like yours.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I am fine actually, I'm just autistic.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I get this too. It is disrespectful.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Being autistic can be quite frustrating. Not because of autism itself but because how others respond to us. I often get told "I'm not autistic and I do that" I wonder if comments like this are trying to come across as being polite in some sort of way but failing miserably on the delivery front.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Good evening Ria, Just seen you on QI.. yes granted the episode was years ago but there you go. From one autistic to another ๐
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Being autistic can mean many things for people. One might not be comfortable with sound, whereas another might not be bothered in the slightest. One can't cope with food mixing with other foods on the plate; to someone else, it doesn't matter. Truth be told, one set of traits doesn't fit all.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yep that's the one.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I love the first under water level music of that game.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic life is stepping foot outside your front doot for a second then quickly closing the door after going back in and say "no I'm just not peopling today" Autistics can find others quite overwhelming, whether it is masking or not, It's important to take time just for you when possible.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Erm.. what is a actual friend again ?!
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
With how I am with phone calls, autistic me is not free for a call, let alone a quick call which will feel not quick at all.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Can honestly say, even I didn't see that come back happening. Well played.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
That's the early 00s for you. I'd like to think it's better than when I was at school but I still read alot of similar experiences to me even now. That's with even all the resources and everything online. Luckily my time at college after that was better, not perfect but alot better.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Looks lovely cara. I do love the sound of the sea aswell, it's sooo soothing.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm pleased he has better time at highschool anyway. Me however.. not so much, it was like I stuck out like a sore thumb.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Rules are not made for everyone in the first place. They are designed to maintain a social hierarchy. The reason why autistic people get battered with rules is because we are not in the inner social circle. People can break the rules way worse anyway but somehow youโre being watched like some hawk.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Not just London, can confirm the midlands too. Take care out there.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
At the end of the day Megan, people say what they want to say regardless of if it's the right thing to say or not.. why.. because they can.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
This really shouldn't be a thing but sadly this is.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
What a wonderful setting this is.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Are people really that silly, it appears that they are.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I had this recently said to me on here about something that I said.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a mystery.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
People really need TO STOP saying to autistics "that's not autism" Plesse do better.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
โI get tired too, you're no different from anybody elseโ Zzzzzzz

And yet we are told we're just being "over the top" Make it make sense.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't take any notice of this. People have been saying this for months and here we are. Rome wasn't built in a day. Zzzzzz
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic life is staying home where it's comfortable and don't have to use energy that I don't have, I get down because I am isolated and lonely and don't feel part of the world. When I do go places and do things, I get anxiety and overstimulated and just want to be home. Well that is fun isn't it.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
I understand, I think I know where it is, but abit far from me. Anyway the reason I asked is in the UK roughly it can be between 2 to 3 years, or maybe more. I'm seeing more and more people especially in recent time getting diagnosised in that time frame.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Where abouts are you Alastair? Hope that's OK to ask, if not I apologise. I waited nearly 3 years for mine in the UK.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic me goes out outside for a walk because that will be nice, it's not too warm. Autistic me comes back 1 minute later because it feels too warm.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
Autistic me finds that โYou have a silly walkโ, type of comments are always a precursor to bullying from others. It seems that I'm setting off the dislike alarm somewhere in their brain, but they couldnโt quite identify why they didn't like me, even though I hadnโt done anything to deserve it.
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes I do this alot to and get the look of "what are you talking about"
Autistic Adam (@autisticadam.bsky.social)
One of the more rather interesting things of being autistic is I pick up on smells that others may not pick up on.
