The moment “multifunctional” left the domain of being just about sustainment companies that mixed disciplines that were previously in pure companies is when the US Army lost the plot
Battle Order (@battleorder.org) reply parent
The conversion off of M777s won’t be inmediate. Alpha and Bravo Battery conversion to HIMARS is immediate tho
Battle Order (@battleorder.org)
I am told 2-11 FAR is keeping its Charlie Battery (M777 battery in light cannon battalions), but a decision has not been made on what to do with it.

EDIT: Fixed an error in captioning The 25th Infantry Division Artillery is converting one of its howitzer battalions (2-11 FAR) into a 2x8 HIMARS bn, condensing some howitzers into the remaining battalion (3-7 FAR), and reorganizing the 125th IEW Bn into a multi-domain fires bn

A variant of the Soviet Universal Carrier APC Squad, this one as a component of the Tank Brigade HQ Company's Recon Platoon. The Soviets received about 2,000-2,300 British & Canadian Univerals as Lend-Lease and used them heavily in certain times of recon formation.

There was also a special TO&E with M7 105mm howitzer motor carriages instead of towed howitzers. The replacement of 75/105mm half-track based SPGs with the towed guns in 1943 was not popular & terrain in the Pacific made SPs favorable. M7s were especially used in the Philippines

WIP. A lot of caveats with LAR because 1st and 2d LAR only have 2 line platoons to align with MEU requirements, while 3d LAR has the doctrinal 3. Some units also broke up their weapons platoon for MEU space and attached 1 AT directly to each line platoon. Others run the doctrinal 4 LAV-AT
