When a Boston fan brought a hurdy gurdy to my show, I naively proclaimed it would be the weirdest thing somebody brings to my show on this run. Well, @lateefmartin was like “Hold My Beer.” He brought a custom instrument he designed and built called a BIKE HARP! I can’t wait to get one in my studio!

My guitar tech, Jai Kaminoff, spent two hours last night tuning my hurdy gurdy’s new strings. I told him I decided to swap it out for this new instrument that needed to be restrung and tuned for the show tonight. The third picture is the look on Jai’s face as he tries to decide if I’m serious.

The scene where Elendil points in defiance at Pharazôn was one that I played too subtly in my first draft. Showrunners dared me to go even bigger, and I’m very happy they did. This scene marks one of the few occurrences of the complete “Where the Shadows Lie” melody in the instrumental score. I wrote the tune set to Tolkien’s iconic Ring Poem, so his words echo in my mind in this moment like a phantom limb, lining up with Sauron’s seductive dialog.
