This scene marks one of the few occurrences of the complete “Where the Shadows Lie” melody in the instrumental score. I wrote the tune set to Tolkien’s iconic Ring Poem, so his words echo in my mind in this moment like a phantom limb, lining up with Sauron’s seductive dialog.
The scene where Elendil points in defiance at Pharazôn was one that I played too subtly in my first draft. Showrunners dared me to go even bigger, and I’m very happy they did.
