Those thoughts aren't disconnected. My point is, I know the use of AI is because the papers are losing money on subscriptions. There's got to be a more accessible way to fund them.
Maybe someone will create an app for combined daily subscriptions to local papers that makes sense and stops critical information being stuck behind paywalls. The voting public is just getting dumber. We're on a bullet train to Idiocracy.
I really want to support my local paper, but the daily rate is way too much to read an article or two, (should be .50¢ imo) and the yearly rate isn't affordable, though it breaks down to reasonable. Papers really need to take a fresh look at their online business models.
I've wanted a subscription to @oregonian.com but I just clicked on an article to see the first paragraph and it says video summarized by AI and the article was "edited." I removed them from my rec feed and I'm done with them until any $ I spend pays humans with journalism degrees.
