Not as bad as you might think. If the streets were carfree, the trains would still have to go slow. Biggest mistake on the transit mall was keeping one lane open for cars. MAX has to weave with buses the entire way.

it's a minimal cost add, and would save a lot of money in the future should they decide to convert it. futureproofing isn't a new concept
