I'm Puerto Rican amigo so i can relate to tropical. Why do you try not to get the leaves wet when watering? Are they kept outside? If so , when it rains , the leaves get wet no? I keep mine outside all year long, including the rainy season. Perhaps that is why some of the tips of leaves turn brown.
