That I don't know. But I do know they became better readers. We always discussed what I read and even with books like The Old Man and The Sea they understood the underlying ideas of self and society. Wonderful watching their critical thinking develop.
I taught adult men in prison & many never had anyone read to them like that. I read to them every day. They each resisted the first day in my class but it became their fav part of the day. "It's like watching a movie in my head, Ms. B." f/
As a teacher let me say thank you. Teaching kids to read is fine, but teaching that they can "see" what is happening through words is priceless. It's teaching imagination. 1/
