This this thisssssss. We've got so many hurdles to overcome, and one of the best ways to set the tone for the 2028 presidential Dem primary is by demonstrating that your strategy can win local, state, and congressional primaries! That's how you move a weather vane politician: prove you can win!
The thing is, if you're not part of the effort to cultivate better choices of Dems, you're handing the power over to the people who *will* be a part of that effort. And the people who are a part of that effort don't just go "no, not that".
I would also hope that folks realize that even the worst Dem is better than the best Republican, on literally every front. Yes, even Newsom's shitty bullshit and flirting with right-wingers is not nearly as bad as the least awful Republican, at this point.
Which is why I think the best way forward is for Dems and left-leaning people to work towards, identify, and promote, potential candidates who do better on all these fronts, not just "not that guy (who hasn't even declared his intention to run)".
