Jeffries chosen by old establishment and is watered down version of them - worst of both worlds. He's tentative about him because of his allegiance to big donors and old power. Can't break this with our current two-party system. Need AOC and Bernie and others to take over the Green Party.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Must combine it with a pledge to use any power won to pass national anti-gerrymandering law. Need to have a goal, not just to maintain the System's status quo. The System is broken.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
I enjoy gloating over Trump's abysmal poll numbers as much as anyone. However, we need to focus on the damage he will do in another 3 1/2 years, even if dems take House and/or Senate in 2026. Poll numbers won't affect the mess we will have to fix in 2029.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Need a central collection/cataloging of these complaints, with public promise that next dem pres. will have DOJ investigate and prosecute ICE agents' criminal conduct and support civil rights cases against these abuses in every possible way, including discovery prior to the filing of complaints.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Two things. First, I'm hoping she has a lawsuit filed within hours. Certainly tortious. Probably criminal. Second, how could any of the other dems sign that agreement? Sometimes I just don't understand how dems think. The moral imperative of their delay of redistricting was just diluted.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Rachel great on two of three. 1) showing protests; 2) starting to focus on Trump's attacks on upcoming elections. The last thing I'd like to see is conversion of protest energy to specific organizing - i.e. atty groups by state, voter assistance by state, collecting video of ICE crimes, more.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Even major wins against Trump will not stop him. Trump/admin just keep doing whatever they want. They have ignored the courts so far, and any loss (think Kilmar Abrego Garcia) is manipulated for retribution. Can't rely on courts. Can't rely on dem leadership. AOC. Maybe Bernie and Warren.
Hannah1787 - I like sources (@haideeleclair.bsky.social) reposted
Real, urgent question. How do we get more people to show up and protest and get involved? I feel like I mostly see older people (a lot retired), and more women than men. I know it takes time and effort and energy. But we need to try to save our country, our democracy. Ideas?
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
This is fundamental. Major focus. Women must lead the government, but we need men to change the government. Energy of young men (YM) mandatory. Active and aggressive. YM chase desire. Identify desire? After desire attaches, then education through service.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
we need somebody to announce that, if a dem is ever elected prez, every act of violence and every use of force by ICE will be reviewed, and ICE agents will be subject to prosecution by DOJ if they have violated any criminal laws.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
They WANT violent incidents, which will help the main objective - preventing a free election. Military and ICE presence is being developed for possible raids and deployment around election day. Can't have illegal immigrants voting. Good place to look for brown skin? Lines at polls.

I appreciate your voice. I hope that you are thinking about how the CDC can be reborn after Trump (assuming an after). We are 1/8 the way through this. We will need a serious plan.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
A Corporation is a fiction. It is a vehicle for doing business, created by law. It is not a person. Did Bill of Rights signatories believe Hudson's Bay Company or Plymouth Company were persons? In 1776, "All men are created equal" was not just philosophy. It was the old in-out in-out.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly. I would go further. Our (so-called) democracy is destroyed beyond repair. Remember we are 1/8 of our journey through Trump's term. Two action items. We need a real plan to establish a real democracy. Also need to dump anxiety about whether California redistricting is right.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't buy this. Young (white) men struggle because they have been corrupted with a sense of entitlement. The only cure for this is a true liberal education combined with actually doing something for others. Real heartbreak can sometimes open the door. Porn and sports betting keep it closed.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course you are right, but could you take it one step further. Major/multinational corporations are antithetical to democracy. They will consistently act to disrupt, subvert and eliminate democracy. Someone needs to put it together as say it publicly.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
Finally read Legacy of Ashes. Main topic aside, it made me understand that corporations are fundamentally anti-democracy organizations. Stephanie Ruhle. i like you but your are peddling Kellyanne level alternative facts when wondering why corporations aren't critical of Trump econ policies.

AOC is one of a very small group (2 or 3) of democratic leaders. I know she is busy providing government support and government services to her constituents, but I'm glad to see her speaking about national issues. Too bad none of the msnbc talking heads have the courage to get her on their shows.

What to do? Voting rights are more important than the cost of eggs, but we've gotten very short-sighted. Dems should make a 2025 Contract with America, advocating extreme gerrymanders to take over government in order to ban extreme gerrymanders. Require nonpartisan redistricting commissions.

Watched a Roe v. Wade memory. Remember how we thought it would galvanize a political movement? FBI purging reliable worker bees, hiring J6 criminals. ICE with huge budget for secret police, hiring J6 criminals. Political investigations ramping up. We're frogs lounging in ever-warming water.

Article in NYT about Cuomo meeting with business leaders and trying to cut side deals with them and Adams. Cuomo and Adams can claim they are independents, but it isn't true. In terms of our political system, they are democrats, and their scheming is why the dem party is as worthless as the GOP.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
I heard someone say on television (msnbc?) that trump administration had already enacted 40% of project 2025. while that can't be accurate for total completion, i can imagine the possibility of at least initial action. Anyone have any idea if this is accurate? Incredible organization if so.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
This is true. Progressives are natural allies of farmers. Of blue collar workers. But the "moderate" dems from those states don't invite AOC home for dinner. Until that happens, we're not going anywhere.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Agree, but something on the redistricting. Without a commitment by dems to immediately pass legislation (when in control of anything) to ban gerrymandering in national elections, then it is all just an escalation to nowhere.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Gatherings are key. But what are you going to do when you get there, bitch about the Washington Post or brainstorm solutions? Sorry if my voice is not important enough for you.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm calling for a 2025 Contract With America. Every democratic lawmaker, candidate, governor and other officeholders pledge to extreme gerrymandering, and also pledge that, once elected, they will vote immediately (if take house/senate) to ban gerrymandering in every way possible.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Rachel finally said the first part tonight. We no longer have a democracy. Now to the next thing: Trump using all means available to subvert future elections. Solutions? And third. After another 3 1/2 years of this, what are the steps to remake the government. It will be beyond fixing.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
Time for a new Contract With America. Every dem senator, rep, and candidate, together with every dem gov and state legislator and candidate, needs to agree to gerrymander every blue state AND promise that, when elected, will vote immediately and consistently to undo gerrymandering nationally.

the way things are going, the golden ballroom will be a soup kitchen in a few years. Real problem is that many of these heinous acts can't be overturned. We need a Project 2029, detailed, of how to resurrect democracy, because our current imperfect democracy will be dead by 2029.

The real problems are lack of imagination and laziness. We can't imagine how rotten government will be in 4 years, and how weak America will be. We need focus on a plan to completely rebuild government so it works for people and keeps us safe. This is a big deal. Epstein is momentary diversion.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
I appreciate the self satisfaction I get from Trump's Epstein chaos. Politically weakens him. But it is essentially meaningless for the real problem. There is no political force, short of impeachment, that can stop his destruction of our government. Epstein. Think the worst. So what.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
We are not going to see a new democracy grow from the wreckage unless the voters are engaged and educated. Consider a typical campaign speech. 45 to 60 minutes of invective. How about two or three 5 minute segments of detailed instruction, and then 30 to 45 minutes of the usual slop.

Project 2029. I'm assuming we keep the current Constitution, flawed as it is, and try to prove it is a living and evolving document. Trump has shown the power of the Executive Branch. We"ve learned the power of the Legislative by its abdication by Repubs. We've seen the limits of the Judiciary.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
Plans can be mocked, but are necessary. We need a Project 2029. Will be somewhat palatable because 1) there was a Project 2025; and 2) things are going to get bad for people and there will be interest in making things better.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
Trump's destruction can't be stopped. Maybe the necessary evil we needed to demolish a political system that was compromised from the start. The destruction can't be fixed by patching it up. Democracy needs to be reestablished. I'm calling the 2028 election The Third Founding. Opportunity.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Sorry you have to be a lightning rod. That's how it is. Country needs you. By the way, we need positive vision for resurrection of democracy after Trump destruction. Will get mocked like Green New Deal, but a lot of people will listen because things are going to get bad.

would you start ranting about Congress' power to expand the House of Reps. That should be in top 10 bullet points of Project 2029. Another is expanding Supreme Court. If not discussed, no chance at all. Get it talked about and there might be a slim chance.

This will become the "secret police." All that new money to hire people pardoned for the January 6th insurrection. The ICE/Department of Homeland Security needs to be monitored and publicized. States need to do all possible to make masked agents unlawful.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. Everyone needs to feel like a winner sometimes, but maybe we can grade the quality of win. Real win is favorite dinner: dem house, senate and prez; 2 of 3: warmed up leftovers; 1 of 3: three day old cold pizza. All are food. You get to eat. But you know the difference.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
That's constitutional. Congress can and should establish more congressional districts. Whatever the smallest number of voters in a congressional district (think Wyoming), that should be the cap for any district. Congress can do that.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
And a public promise - on pain of resignation - that the first law passed (and sent to Trump if we can get the Senate) is a federal law outlawing gerrymandering and requiring all states to use independent non-partisan commissions to redraw voting maps for the 2028 elections.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Good for you to start outlining the complete revamp of CDC. Need it as part of Project 2029. We'll need a similar plan for every executive agency. Don't be afraid if the first step is to fire every employee appointed or hired during the Trump years.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
All true. AOC tells the truth. Important, but not enough. We need to start building the detailed long-term plan for change. Trump will completely destroy our terribly imperfect government in his four years. We need a Project 2029 to build a real democracy. We need to start real planning.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social)
New metaphor. It's all-inclusive. FIXER UPPER. Trump is "demo day." He's destroying the existing rot so it can be rebuilt/reborn. In real life, demo day is a week or two, and the rebuild is 6 to 9 months. Extrapolate for Trump's 4 years. We need our Project 2029. Not campaigning as usual.

We are not dealing with much. We are dealing with one thing: The loss of our democracy. We have one task, to figure out how to rebuild a better and more democratic government beginning on 1/20/2029. Two obstacles. First is another 1291 days of Trump. Second is dems lack of will and focus.

We need to start talking about what to do if/when dems control prez, senate and house 1/20/2029. Can't do anything until then. Need to get people familiar with what it will take to fix. 1. immediately remove and replace all Trump puppets; 2. will need a lot of money; 3. need specific plans.

Yes. We need more democracy. For that we need more political parties. Musk is a terrible destructive force, like Trump, but a new political party is a good thing for democracy. In taking it back, we need to remember our history of limiting democracy and avoid the same mistakes.

I heard a phrase today that was new to me. It isn't new, but just new to me. The Second Founding. It refers to the potential for democracy that was possible due to changes to the constitution after the civil war. I'm choosing to think of November 2028 as the possibility for The Third Founding.

Trump will never be held ACCOUNTABLE for his corruption and lawlessness. Why? Biden/Garland's age, trust in a failed system, lack of imagination, and basic decency. Forget accountability. The task is to win 2028 trifecta and establish the first real democracy in America.
borderville.bsky.social (@borderville.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely. But what are we going to do about it. Current media format only allows for complaints, not solutions. Solution. Media hosts need to specialize. Climate. Vaccines/public health. Education. 10 minutes every night. In depth. Identify problem for fix. Forget complaining.

Dems have one real influencer and they seem afraid of her power. Dems had one voice in the DNC brave enough to look at how to revitalize the party, and they dumped him. Dems have several older guys who seem to want more power: Schiff - 65 yoa. Raskin - 62 yoa. They seem young but aren't.

New thought for me. My obsession (and fellow progressives?) with holding Trump ACCOUNTABLE is just my ego. A waste of time. A distraction. We need to get to work. What dems did to David Hogg is the real problem. We need a solution for our two-party prison.

Too much truth can be a distraction. Trump has changed things. Media failing. Can't cover it all individually. Solution: Each msnbc host picks one topic and specializes. Each show gets 10 minutes in depth, every show. The other 35 minutes can repeat everything everyone else said all day.

We are 1/8 the way through, and damage will be cumulative. Assume dems take House and Senate in 2026. It won't stop the destruction. Won't even slow Trump. Time to start imagining an alternative to our two-party prison. AOC is part of solution. Dems need to support real change.
