That would be one thing. Some of them want to outlaw divorce. Another one could be purposely creating even more of a wealth gap, or eliminating certain profession demographics. Like a lot of white collar or creative professions tend to have fewer children. I'm sure it will all be on the table.

One pretty iron clad trend is that as economies develop, childhood mortality and birthrates drop. What's their planto increase birth rates? I'm going to guess it won't include addressing affordability, but won't mind trampling on people's rights.

Some are critical of Taylor Lorenz's writing style and the reactions she gets, but she's usually right. Creators affiliated with Chorus are the same people consistently behind the curve and more likely to push Dems are cool, than actually try to move dems to a better position.

I'm still seeing a lot of folks around my age (Gen X) confidently saying LLM AI is useless or won't have any real effect any time soon. I'm more in the camp if it's both amazing and terrifying at the same time. There have already been consequences.

I wasn't old enough to remember his presidency and didn't live outside the US firm 78-81. To be fair I don't think a farther left president would have been able to do much. Social democratic politics requires trust and from what I've read trust in government was very low.
bort503.bsky.social (@bort503.bsky.social) reply parent
He at least tried to make human rights a factor in foreign policy. Unfortunately the trust in government that made the new deal era possible was lost, especially because of the Vietnam war. Many of Carter's govt reforms were the precursor to neoliberalism.

I can't tell if you are intentionally or ironically contradicting yourself, but whatever. If you want to avoid fascism or anything that rhymes you can't ignore how it rises or what it actually is in practice.

In the early 30s Mussolini said Italy had 22 corporations. The list was clearly about market sectors and not individual corporations.
bort503.bsky.social (@bort503.bsky.social) reply parent
What are you arguing? I've never found a legit citation for quote you posted. And he didn't use "Corporatism" like you or I would. Mussolini's "corporatism" was about sectorizing society into a societal hierarchy with the economy under state direction.
bort503.bsky.social (@bort503.bsky.social) reply parent
Like I said, they rise out of similar conditions. Not to mention in practice fascism in practice goes beyond the narrow scope of a single line from Mussolini. Like toxic nostalgia for a mythologized past, ultra-nationalism, fear of others/change, patriarchy, racism/othering etc.
bort503.bsky.social (@bort503.bsky.social) reply parent
And the material conditions that gave rise to fascism were eerily similar to what led to tyrannical reactionary regimes of the past. History didn't start in the 19th or 20th century. Ignoring this only means you'll be blindsided when it happens under another system.
bort503.bsky.social (@bort503.bsky.social) reply parent
Fascism is the name when it comes out of a liberal democracy with a market based economy. Similar things happened going back to at least the ancient Greeks. Aristotle called it perversions of government. Socialism might have additional tools, but you'll still need constant advocacy to avoid it.
