Yeah, plenty to criticize, but Goldwater, Reagan and William F Buckley saw people like that and the John Birch Society as a threat and worked to marginalize their influence. That faction owns the party now.

So true. I loathed them all at the time, especially Reagan and William, Ah, Um, Buckley, but now they seem quite tolerable in comparison to these demons.
