What’s funny is the 3 games that hooked me the hardest were all three in the gif you posted Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Final Fantasy 6 (3 SNES). They still very much hold up to this day.
Breath of Fire! My uncle got it for me when I was a kid because it “looked like Zelda”. We didn’t understand why our character wasn’t moving in combat. We dismissed it for a few months only for me to give it another shot and once I leveled up for the first time I became permanently hooked on RPGs.
