In 1998 I made $35000 working for Texaco. I don’t know many people making that today.
Compare the Median Worker pay to each county's AMI (Average Median Income) & the difference is staggering. In Santa Clara County, this is less than 30% AMI. In 2021, there were only 24 available units for every 100 people needing housing. Low worker pay is keeping people in poverty or homeless.

$26 an hour would be the current Federal minimum wage if it had kept up with both inflation & productivity increases. Starting in 1981 with President Reagan, 100% of annual productivity increases only went into the business owner's pockets.

I'm on public transportation also and that also was a challenge but it's what I'm doing now. I also lost so much money because, as you know, they bill upfront and if the driver decides not to drive out here, they may or may not return my order to the store. In my case, mostly not. So many headaches

It really is a headache. We all have to decide what works best in our individual circumstances and I get that too. I really do. There are a few things I like to buy that I can only find through Walmart, Target or Amazon so far and that's frustrating how much they own our shopping habits.

I live in an area of terrible highway construction and no one wanted to deliver. Even shipping ended up who knows where and the hassle was enormous if I got my order at all

CEO pay should have been directly tied to the corporations lowest paid workers wages a long, LONG time ago. Should have been set to a maximum of 100 X what the LOWEST paid employee makes per year. MAXIMUM. Including shares and bonuses and such.

WE (french left) advocate for 1:20 If a basic worker is paid 2K€ a month (they mostly aren't, as of today), 1:20 still gives the CEO a 40K a month. NO ONE, and I say NO ONE, needs more. Never has, never will. Whoever claims they need more is a degenerate. Yes, I use their own terminology.
The thing is also: no one, absolutely no one, who gets more than 40K/month cannot be replaced by someone who happily accepts the 40K and does the very same job the same as good. Normal proletarians ARE being replaced to lower their wages, why not the same for expensive CEOs...

Scott Bessent says tariff revenue (taxes paid by Americans) will go to pay down the national debt. Oddly, a big part of the debt and deficit is due to tax cuts for the wealthy, especially billionaires. Kinda makes a neat little circle. That’s a very elegant con. Newman and Redford would be proud.
