In other words, discussions of fiscal policy in the US are always stupid. Trump just dials the stupid up to 11. But that’s what happens when you make dials that go up to 11.
Brian Romanchuk (@brianromanchuk.bsky.social)
Part of the problem with the Trump “$8 Trillion in tariff revenues” is that serious people in the US have normalised discussing budgets based on 10-year projected totals. There is zero evidence that Trump understands the distinction, never mind the rest of MAGA.

Basically (and I think this is what Chris is really saying; I just don't think it's expressed helpfully by bringing the debt path into the story) the UK has absolutely no problems that couldn't be solved, except the government has promised not to solve them in order to get elected

Although blaming the BoE is plausible, this was still a major screwup in the Her Majesty’s Treasury side. I suggest that Mrs. Truss find out which party was in power since 2010 and thus had access to those bureaucrats.

Brock then went to the LA Rams (in LA at the time). Got crushed by the Bears 46 defence in the playoffs as the Bears went on to their Super Bowl Shuffle. A somewhat immobile old school pocket passer was not a great matchup against the Bears defence.
Brian Romanchuk (@brianromanchuk.bsky.social) reply parent
Dieter Brock was a story. Amazing strong arm, led the Bombers for years, although Winnipeg had a Grey Cup drought. Then his wife badmouthed Winnipeg and the fans got PO’d. Traded away to Hamilton, and lost to the Bombers when they finally broke the Grey Cup drought.

A big part of the Wickham thesis is that the Western Roman Empire did not suddenly collapse, what happened was that tax revenue was crippled by the loss of African colonies, and the military switched to being supported by land, not paid salaries. This then evolved into the successor states.
