I've worked in HE for over 20 years, in that time I have been in charge of making CAS letters, collating visa and passport info from students, international student monitoring and attendance monitoring.I've worked in 9 depts in 7 unis. Not once have I known of a student who overstayed their visa.
I think it's simpler than this. This isn't a tactical miscalculation. Labour is giving us the policies it - to the extent it believes in anything - believes in.

I don't think what we call capitalism will survive it, so a lot for what we call wealth is going to evaporate. I agree it will not do good things to equitable resource access.
I have never disputed my desire to see billionaires stripped of their wealth however that happens. Appropriation or a 10% wealth tax would be fine and dandy by me. And frankly if government's don't act climate change is going to do it for them.
If it isn't possible for the sytems to be fair and equitable for all. And the system clearly is incapable of housing, clothing and feeding everyone then probably the system has to come down then.
The existence of billionaires in the UK is proof positive the tax system is nowhere near progressive enough. Regardless of what is going on in the US, wealth inequality in Europe is much too high.
