House Democrats passed DC statehood in 2021. 45 Democrats in the Senate supported it at the time, but that wasn't enough. Especially not with Joe Manchin as the deciding vote for so many things. Big Democratic majorities in both houses and a Democrat in the White House would almost surely pass it.

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.
ICE has been taking the position nationwide that its field offices, and the detention cells therein, are not facilities "operated by or for [DHS] used to detain or otherwise house aliens," on the argument that the facilities are "processing areas" and therefore not covered detention facilities.

The fact that the State Department is planning to open an Office of Remigration didn't get even anywhere close to the attention it deserved. Remigration is explicitly a European far-right/neo-Nazi word that in Europe refers quite explicitly to ethnic cleansing beyond simply immigration enforcement.
First they illegally deport citizens. Then they unleash ICE to terrorize communities. Now they’ve got the National Guard in L.A. to silence protestors. This ain’t about law and order. This is what authoritarianism looks like.

ICE is a much greater threat to this country than illegal immigrants. The current administration ia by far the greatest threat this country faces. The problem is not at our borders. It is in the White House.
Hegseth is now threatening to send the Marines to LA to suppress protesters against ICE’s brutal assault on immigrant garment workers. Just process that: Sending in the *military* to crack down on protesters. We’re now at severe risk of martial law. That’s what they’ve wanted all along.
As you watch the cops tear gas an entire neighborhood as punishment for protesting their extrajudicial arrests, consider that the people who said defund the police/abolish ICE were not, in fact, asking too much!
I think nuance and respectful disagreement can be found on a lot of issues, but ICE isn't one of them. Fuck ICE. I'm rooting for their abject failure and personal misery. May the people of Los Angeles send these discount gestapo hacks packing.

After three months in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, a Filipino green-card holder who had been arrested at Seattle-Tacoma Airport has finally gone home.
"The hallways...were absolutely lined with ICE agents. And immigrants were scared to leave, even though their cases were still open. What happened was that ICE agents then stormed into the courtroom, kicked out the attorneys, and detained everyone in the courtroom over the judge's objections."

I'm not normally this categorical and immigration law is complex but--every Afghan woman in the US has a well founded fear of persecution on the basis of their membership of a particular social group.
