We had MTV2, VH1, and others, and people didn’t just keep watching music videos. In my mind it was the wraparound programming that celebrated the music videos what got people so excited about MTV.

Every year, The Twin Geeks covers the Penny Arcade Expo West’s selection of innovative new indie games, and this year, the selection is deeply inspired, from vibey rollerblading games to perplexing abstract designs, there’s something for everyone.
The effects of drugs aren’t that you become a bad human. He’s just an inherently bad, literally evil person who has also used drugs. If he were high right now, I think I may understand some of the hateful things I’ve read about addiction and drugs this week. But he doesn’t seem to be.

We should do better morally, and target our critique on ideas, not a war on drugs, which are all useful for their designed purpose.
This position of “addicts did it to themselves” is deeply toxic. He’s not unqualified because he did drugs, it’s the rhetoric and dangerous ideas he has.
Not from him or Harvard, no.
I’m very aware. Shaming his addiction will not help addicts. Target his message.
I just help other people, and do my best wherever I can make a difference. I don’t have any further strategy beyond this.
Our strategy is what, shaming vocal conditions and folks with addiction, and not the message? Shame on us too, I think.

It’s also hard, when even understanding the larger cultural experience was perhaps more conservative, knowing that here in Seattle, it felt leagues more progressive than it does now (outside a couple neighborhoods that continued in that direction). My experience was it was better.

A shame what's going on in cultural journalism right now. Too many of us have lost jobs at a time when this work is desperately needed. Without it, the less curious people will become, and the less motivated they will be to challenge the culture they're consuming. That could be by design right now.

It didn’t work for me till my doctor advised me to take much much less (from 10mg to 2.5) so it matched how my body’s release of melatonin would naturally act. I was taking more and more, thinking, nothing will work lol
Being Wanted in several territories made it impossible for me to enjoy anything else. Notably nothing bad happened in this time because of this status. But then a single NPC treated my like I was acting and I couldn’t take the heat.
Create games that incentivize being bad more than good challenge. Can’t think of many. Randomly, thinking of lawless GTA clones that reward doing dumb stuff, like Saints Row: The Third. Was trying to be bad in Red Dead 2 today but literally turned myself in after an hour. 💀

I do love Weapons, that some of the arcs aren’t fully designed for its own multilayered chronology, is the only thing that’s occurred to me against it. I’ve never heard so many “what the fucks” in a theater, which is delightful. So is a full, hyped theater that leaves happy.
I kept thinking of PTA’s Magnolia — where dark things happen and sometimes threads based on intersecting characters just close, perhaps because dark things can just happen, sometimes there isn’t a reason. The odd chronology is used for a couple fake-outs but respect that it’s very accessible still!

For like the teacher, cop, and addict I’m not as sure, you feel their emotional arcs are resolved though?
What do you mean by it avoids psychology? Like it’s just literally what you see?
Weapons is unique, but also understand why Peele’s people, or anyone, would pass on the script itself. It doesn’t resolve most of what it spends the movie setting up, apart from the core concept, lots of time with characters who come together, but most do not have complete arcs etc etc.
If there were another shot in the movie they would release it but there’s not so they don’t
