Oh, yes, Texas has a paper trail a mile long arguing that states have the right to fully deploy its state agents to defend its borders and to use lethal force against any invasion. That would inherently include Illinois using lethal force to repel an invasion by the Texas National Guard.
Seems Trump might be trying an end-run in which Texas mobilizes its National Guard. That would be Texas invading Illinois, which as you can imagine is unconstitutional. One wonders about potential remedies, such as IL seizing assets of TX corporations like X, xAI, and SpaceX. Just a thought. 🤔

It's true. We could probably run down prerequisite steps all day long, but I think motivating an expansion of Congress would be a good way to start. More democracy will be better wherever and however it is implemented.
In the long term I dream that we DO reconstitute, because a government structured under the U.S. Constitution will never be more than a sad approximation of democracy. The Senate, the Electoral College, and the Supreme Court are all anti-democratic institutions, by design.
I am not seeing "Constitutional amendment reversing Citizens United" on any of these New Reconstruction wishlists folks are circulating, and. Absent starting over from scratch, I don't see us establishing any semblance of democracy here without that plus Supreme Court expansion.
