I would be confused too. On the bad side, Russian firefighters are getting a heck of a lot of practice putting out oil fires.

I'm not sure we can get rid of Trump. He intends to become a dictator for life - like Putin, Orban, Lukashenko and Saddam Hussein did.

I have 9 friends in the U4U program. I didn't sponsor any of them, but I tutor them in conversational English. Already three of them have left the U. S. Cruelty is not a strong enough word. Their homes have all been bombed. There is nothing left to go home to. And they have pre-school children.

I big "if" unfortunately. I have hope, however.

I suspect you have this correct. The fuze failed to detect the drone because of it's size and radar cross section. Maybe it wasn't a metal drone?

2.5 meters away. Good comment, however.

I agree, Amy S. Forgive (if and when forgiveness is requested) but never forget. Russians forgot how much they suffered under communist dictators. Then they elected a new one. Game over for them. Now the U.S. has forgotten our horrific fight against Fascists. We elected a new one. Never forget.

I have no doubt that the battle of Kursk will always be the largest tank battle. At least in the number of tanks involved. Today's tanks are soooo much more deadly that not nearly so many are needed. Besides, ground warfare has progressed to drones now.

If Ukraine is planning this, it's not a great idea to post an explanation here. I kind of hope they are, however. I bet that submarine is far less protected than the Kerch bridge is.

I hope they aren't dead. I have a connection to one of those soldiers.

I don't believe it is possible to effectively harden drones against this type of attack without making them one heck of a lot more expensive.

Yup. The tank had been abandoned. That's why the hatch was left open.

For those who don't know, Ihor is the Ukrainian pronunciation of the name spelled игор, or ігор in, respectively, Russian and Ukrainian Cyrillic. Russians pronounce that name as Igor. Ukrainians latinize it as Ihor. Marty Feldman, of course, insists on eye-gore (in Young Frankenstein).

Having flown more than 2.5 million miles, I am nonetheless a fan of AMTRAK for distances up to about 200 miles. True high-speed rail would expand the feasible distance by rail for about 500 miles.

The ammunition "cooked off" from the heat of the fire. Thus time to escape. That's typical of a drone strike. It's one reason I like Javelin strikes. They instantly detonate enemy ammunition.
captainfactoid.bsky.social (@captainfactoid.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a "cook off," where heat causes ammunition to explode. A sympathetic explosion is when the shock wave of a detonates other ammunition. A sympathetic explosion is instant. A cook-off happens seconds or minutes after the incoming projectile explodes. The crew may survive a cook-off.

There are many Russians who do NOT deserve to burn, or die, or be crippled. I've known several. It is important that these innocent people suffer along with all those a-holes who voted for Putin in the early years. The world needs to see how bad it can get if you elect a would-be dictator.

If the Georgia protesters win this showdown, Georgians will be on the path to freedom of the press, fair elections and European style prosperity - for decades to come at least. I wish there was more I could do to help.
