Maybe more corporate but their way of communicating this is poor. As an archivist I can totally understand both sides. It's incredibly heavy to answer individual requests for material and it can feel extremely reactive. They should be more transparent about it.
Cécile Archives (@cecilearchives.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd like to see historians and other users adding their signatures to push for the employment of additional archivists.
Cécile Archives (@cecilearchives.bsky.social)
Decisions due to lack of resources can often be seen as an intended obstruction to access. With enough resources, both could be done: cataloguing selected blocks of material for public release AND clear and catalogue files on request. In any case anything catalogued should be released to ALL.

I tried to write as a professional archivist about what watching those movies does to me. Beyond the archival echoes, they offer a breath of humanity, of empathy and generous, gentle resistance. It's life affirming. You see the absurdities of a wasteful society without any judgement. It's soulful.

Varda offers a cinematic form of empathetic community archiving. Her gentle approach to filmmaking echoes calls for a more inclusive archive. The Gleaners and I (2000) and Faces, Places (2017) may not be traditional archives but they act function as acts of memory-making medium.com/@cecilechemi...
