Here's what I love about science: Someone says eating almonds cures cancer. A scientist says I wonder if that's true then conducts rigorous testing w/ as many ppl as possible to confirm a connection b/w eating almonds & cancer growth. That's the beauty of it! Scientists constantly ask, is that true?

OMG!!! OMG YES My dentist sends 4 or FIVE confirmations. One of them is a phone call. And if I don't answer the phone call, despite having confirmed through email and text, they will keep calling until they reach me to confirm AGAIN. Then, they'll leave me waiting for 20 minutes past my appt time.

Constant, crippling fear that you will be fired or laid off if you do something that makes you appear biased. Not only has it happened MANY times, but news leaders also talk to others and ruin careers by claiming someone is not objective and none of us make enough money to have a safety net.

Research shows that, once you frame an issue in war-like terms or define opposing ideologies as "us v. them", humans will almost immediately justify brutality. Worldwide, humans are hard-wired to believe that almost anything is justifiable if it's self-defense.

In my non-expert mind, public sentiment was far ahead of policy & that's caused a real problem. Those most likely to support non-violence & community policing now avoid law enforcement jobs, but budgets haven't changed, nor has oversight, accountability, policy, or procedure.
