The single most important aim in American politics right now should be convincing the broad public that Trump is—absolutely literally, without hype or hyperbole—seeking to be a dictator. That’s never going to happen with Dem electeds constantly acting like even they don’t really believe it.

Pritzker: "When did we become a country where it's ok for the US president to insist on national television that a state should call him to beg for anything? Especially something we don't want. Have we truly lost all sense of sanity in this nation that we treat this as normal?"
Andy Craig (@andycraig.bsky.social) reposted
That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.

I know, I know, but: The president of the US saying, literally, "we're going in" in reference to sending the military to an American city for no reason beyond terrorizing the local population should be the most immediately impeachable shit imaginable

Chris Edelson (@chrisedelson.bsky.social)
seems like lawless presidency continues. Hard to see how unilateral action can be justified here unless there was imminent threat of attack v. US. trump likely believes he can order military action at his discretion. That is dangerous for any president but especially dangerous for an authoritarian.

if you're saying you "may" declare an emergency at some point in the future, it's not an emergency. Emergencies demand urgent action--they aren't something you can say you might deal with in the future. This is another phony "emergency" the trump admin could claim in an effort to consolidate power
