Trump is legacy shopping. He ran away from Warp Speed, which should have been seen as his greatest success, because he was afraid of the conspiracists in his base. Now, as he flounders in his second term, he may see it as his one chance at redemption. It may be too late to even redeem that part.

The “don’t comply in advance” crowd often fails to see that court challenges are the most effective way to achieve non-compliance.
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social) reply parent
It is the most maddening thing I see in response to every legal expert I follow on this site. The “none of it matters” anyway response to even the slightest positive news is exhausting. This administration public statements are contemptuous and they push limits. In the end, they comply.
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social) reply parent
I’d argue that one sign of a successful political movement is the ability to make people feel they are part of a spontaneous response. 2/2
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m not sure that Shatz would disagree that those reactions were organized. However, the organized messaging was so strong (in particular in the COVID example) that most who hold those views would not acknowledge they were led there by organized resistance. In the end, the impact is the same. 1/2
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t understand people who follow legal experts only to argue with their analysis, especially when it’s merely an issue of describing why something could happen.
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social)
This is a ridiculous argument.

Benign (harmless) vs. malignant (willing to hurt or take advantage of others). These aren’t formal distinctions, but a mental health provider may tell you about them to help you understand your condition. 2/2
Chris Garfield🏳️🌈 (@chrisgarfield.bsky.social) reply parent
Just because it isn’t an official diagnosis, does not mean it isn’t real. The Cleveland Clinic explains it this way: The DSM-5-TR…doesn’t describe different types of narcissism or NPD. But experts often still organize narcissism based on traits or behaviors…1/2

Good lord. “I’m going to ‘help’ [read ‘occupy’] you whether you want it or not. But it would be nice if you asked” is just pure authoritarian speak. It’s especially so when you say you have the power to do it whether someone wants it or not.

FWIW, my take is this: it’s perfectly valid to not trust him, and to not support him as he ramps up to a presidential race. That doesn’t mean you can’t admire and support his tactics against Trump. He doesn’t own that approach; he’s illustrating an effective way of attacking Trump for others to use.

It’s hard to pinpoint, but there was a film-related assignment in college that fits. In a class called Social Problems, we watched “Parenthood” and “Boyz n the Hood”. One assignment was to compare how the characters in those movies dealt with similar issues (Divorce, Teen Pregnancy, etc.). 1/2

Before you have the reflexive American reaction of “haha, the president has no power over this, it’s A Distraction”, consider that the goal here is not to change anything, but rather to prepare the terrain to declare any election loss as having been rigged.
