Ah, I only mentioned a few of the parallels in the live feed before I got bored (and realised I was probably boring everyone else as well) and stopped. If it's anything in the Millibars (sounds better than 'skeets' doesn't it?) then I apologise.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
Who are you talking to - Abigail or me? Just for the sake of clarity!

Great stuff! But also the name of the app: Procreate. LOL.

Go absolutely apeshit hyperbolically evil (assuming you haven't drafted that already)... like, oh I don't know, welding every door in a family home shut and let them starve to death? It's just an idea- take it or leave it- but the first half of my first sentence is actionable but not overweening.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social)
Even writing verse is getting old for the time being.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social)
I'm really bored now. Waiting on another writer to finish their draft of a novel before I exchange it for notes on my novella (and the same for them) - urgh, what do I do with myself? I could write a play or film but there's minimal opportunities for a writer of my standing.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
*plays, films, TV shows and books, obviously. I missed one.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
For now it's one of those things the public consciousness would rather erase from memory. Even plays, films and TV shows about it aren't doing too well. Give it time; people will come back to it when they're ready.

It’s hard to write Arsonist monologues for Philosophy Tube now that so much of what the character was designed to ape is mainstream. I remember when “arresting firemen” and “setting fire to refugee hotels” was the most extreme thing I could think to make him advocate for; now it’s the news

Feel kinda embarrassed now for mentioning all the parallels considering what you LITERALLY WROTE ON HERE a couple of hours prior to the premiere. Oh well. (In fairness I only use here for quick bursts of scansion and an occasional rant)

NOT POLITICS I get it's vital and important But this verse is a portent If you're reading this properly: (And if not, you need mockery) For at risk of looking like an ass Or arse, just please touch grass! Yanks: little tip there for your sanity Prior to more justified anger at Hannity

One of the great imponderables: wondering about plays by great contemporary writers that never happened for one reason or another. Case in point: Chris Bush's 'Cerberus', which was going to have a reading at the Bunker Theatre in March 2020.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
I finished the first draft of my first novella after five years of fruitless scriptwriting a week ago and the two things I really missed was the smells and the weather! Fortunately these are fairly quick fixes as the rest was planned to hell and back.

SHARPENING THE MIND Oh please dabble in poetry: Please please please I beg you. It doesn't matter what medium But as far as literary Elysium Goes it's hard to beat. Small, complete and efficient: Any writer can get proficient In this. Whether plays, prose Films with production woes We need variety

BREAKING PROMISES An earlier poem went horribly wrong So allow me to bang on my gong Of my own scheduling failure (Hey, least I'm not impaling ya!) Kind of on hiatus now; other projects beckon No not going to say, what did you reckon?
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
Just read your most recent screenplay draft that you posted - excellent stuff! It may be a personal taste thing but I enjoyed that far more than the typical action blockbuster fayre. I suppose the main takeaway here is there needs to be more mid-budget films like that one being made.

Excellent Q Storyswipe! Just seen your profile too - followed! It's taken some acclimatising but I've enjoyed it more as time goes on. Also means that in a couple of days I'd have written plays, films, poetry & longform prose. Honestly it depends what the story is. Crap answer but there we are.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social)
Two chapters from the end of the first draft of my novella! Quite invigorating actually... and to my surprise the process of book writing is significantly more enjoyable than I thought! I might end up dabbling in #novellas more. Good practice for a #playwright. Also satiates perfectionist streak...

What the Hell is up with the #OnlineSafetyAct - it sets itself up for massive failure, both personal and political. Personal because it only takes one data breach and millions of people have their lives ruined for countless reasons. Political because Starmer will be forever known for Wank Licence.

Why are BlueSky messages called, 'Skeets'? Is it a portmanteau of 'sky' and 'tweets'? Either way it sounds like a sexual act and I'm sure we can think of a better one. 'What are you doing?' 'Just going for a quick skeet.' '...' '...' Perhaps you could call them... 'droplets'? Nope, uh... (1/??)

I wish there were more middlebrows in Hollywood. Admittedly the only film I've seen this year is Mickey 17, however it would be nice to have some films without obnoxious amounts of guns in them. I'm not averse to a good action or war film, but they might lose their power if that's all film is.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
@contrapoints.bsky.social - if my suspicion based on historical precedent is right, we could be looking at the slaughter of every minority in the US - about 100m people. That's the absolute worst-case scenario.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social)
To clarify - that was for a worst-case based on historical precedents - those precedents being things like, 'The power of the institution overwhelming popular opinion by ignoring it', etc.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social)
I'm not normally one to interact in politics, however - If we assume Trump's aim is to eradicate every minority out of existence in the States, we'd be looking at 100m people. For perspective, that's a bigger number than the entire UK, even if we go by the biggest estimates.
Chris (@chriswa06.bsky.social) reply parent
238 people sent to CECOT that we know of. There may be significantly more than that, just the family members are afraid to put identifying details online because they will go next.

Can we have a Bryony Lavery appreciation thread? Recently she's been the author of #MidnightCowboy, #SputnikSweetheart and #BookOfDust - La Belle Sauvage. She's a truly magnificent #playwright. And she got me interested in theatre seeing her Treasure Island at the Rep in Primary!
