When I was in New York in May we got this girl out of a shelter just as she was about to be put to sleep within the next 24 hours. After months of medical care, fostering and weight loss she just got her happy ever after

In the garden today: dragonflies pre-date the dinosaurs. The nymph lives underwater. On the appointed day, it climbs up a plant stem, swallows air to pump up its body, breaks out of its exoskeleton (top right) and spreads its wings. It’s an ancient miracle.
