I disagree with this article actually. Morecambe is loads better than 25 yrs ago. More Music Morecambe, the Platform, the Midland, there's a cinema again (fair enough there were 2 in the 1980s, then 0, but now 1 again), kite festival, 1940s festival, etc etc π©·

I'm really interested in when migration became so hard and so regulated. It seems to be related to nation states and passports which are recent inventions (last 100 years in UK??). Any good books on the subject anyone can recommend so I can know more?

Certainly I've offered a room to local refugees once they've got right to remain and while they're finding their feet once they're told they have to leave their accommodation.

I don't think we can do that in our own homes due to UK asylum laws which demand that asylum seekers stay in the official accommodation sites (I think technically so govt knows where they are). They can't just lodge with other people. But I might be wrong on that.

Day in, day out, I speak to ordinary people who are organising to welcome the asylum seekers accommodated in their towns. They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings. That's the Britain I know, the one I see around me & we never get told about on TV.
