cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
Giuliani was also big mad at Bratton, specifically, because he was getting the credit for COMPSTAT/falling NYC crime rates (along with Jack Maple, since they actually designed that system and Giuliani slapped his name on it) which ultimately led to Bratton resigning in 96 as NYPD commissioner.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social)
Giuliani also got into a huge blow out with either Jack Maple or Will Bratton (can't remember which) in Giuliani's office, because they had suggested that as crime goes down, arrests should also be going down and Giuliani demanded that they keep pressure maximally high to maintain arrest rates.

Dems have, and will, continue to do things like this if you don't pressure them. And you're so up in arms, that you're missing the point that the issue here is that the Democrats aren't leading on the issue, not that they won't go to bat for trans people generally. www.them.us/story/81-dem...

So if you'd like to hang your hat on past results predicting future performance, do you. But all the "don't let perfect be the enemy of good" in the general elections is downstream from days like this. The records candidates run on and the profiles they have are built in non-election years.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, I'm sure your CourseRA on online debate is very nice. Anyway, since 5 months ago prominent Dems - including the governor of the largest Dem state and the chief communicator for the party - have been taking positions that the right wingers have legitimate and valid points about trans rights.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
All the political calculus where "dont let perfect be the enemy of good" gets considered general elections is downstream from days like these. I would personally prefer that we start ironing out those variables now so we can have a better position later.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you, and all the "regular" people out there, need to wrap your heads around the fact that this is the precise time when you should be jockeying to pressure people into positions and working to get people positioned for primaries.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you need to wrap your head around the fact that it is entirely acceptable to demand something of the people who represent you, and it's even good to do that, and its even good to have different groups of people focusing on different things as a political movement shapes.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
It's not even an election year and people are being unhinged about not falling in line behind every slob that happens to hold a position in the DNC. Can we at least wait until primary season before we start with the soul sucking political calculus, people?
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
Ok? My entire point was that there are levers that can be pulled to instigate the AG offices to action - and often are required so that the AG can use as filed cases to initiate suit. Hate the Dems. I don't care. People worked to get these avenues of action in place and people need to use them.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
"Democrats" have also repeatedly stood up for us and passed things like shield laws, codified rights in state constitutions, etc. So, while levers exist, people should pull them as one possible avenue of action among many.
cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
If you are trans and in a blue state where a hospital has complied with the EOs, you should file a complaint with your AG office to instigate a cause of action - especially if you've been harmed by losing access to care! AG websites will have phone numbers and links that walk you through filing.

cleverhandles.bsky.social (@cleverhandles.bsky.social) reply parent
On one hand, yes, but also on the other its just a continuation of the eradication campaign against migrants. The new, hot take (of like the last 5ish years) in the GOP is that the constitution only applies to people deemed to be lawful residents. That's why migrants "don't count for anything"
