Thank you! First run was just to get in the ring and run. I could tell when we lined up for our 2nd run I didn’t have him. Had a good plan for our 3rd run that lasted four obstacles. Still managed to reconnect and finish. Hoping to get two days of runs at our next trial. Gods willing we can title.

On the rare occasions I get the urge to foam roll, I just get out my marble rolling pin for baking. Sometimes I’ll put it in the freezer for cold treatment. Sometimes I’ll wrap a towel around it for something softer. Works the same without paying for a random piece of equipment.

I’m not familiar with High5 gels. Been using Hüma for a couple years. I prefer them over Gu. The Science In Sport Beta Fuel worked well, but it’s a big gel at over 2oz (60ml). Sweet, but it sat well on my stomach. May try some of their other formulas.

A6: I typically only use music on my long runs. No playlist, but I put on Pandora’s “Decibel!” station. I’m a hard rock guy and that station always brings it. I don’t have enough characters to list all the bands I could pick right now.

A5: I kind of just run whenever my schedule allows it. Early evening during the week. Middays on Saturday and morning on Sunday. That’s where I’m at. During my ultras, pre-dawn is the best. After running for hours in the dark, seeing the sun start to peek through is a physical & emotional boost.

A4: Never had an injury keep me from running. Found through running ultras that most aches & pains work themselves out over time. Did have an issue during an ultra where I started peeing blood. Finished the race but it took about 6 wks to get back to running. Now I’m super focused on my hydration

That’s wild! About 6 years ago we had a local runner get struck and killed about a half mile from the finish of a trail race. It was the only paved section of the course. Definitely one thing that makes me nervous while running ultras.

The pain management doctor is booked into September. I have a race in October, so I can’t take that much time off of running. Plus, it doesn’t bother me enough while running that I feel the need to stop. I’ve also ran a 50k on 2 broken toes, so I’m not necessarily a model patient.
