Speaking of quiet, do you know why some buses (metro and ST) have such rattling window frames? I haven't been able to figure out what to watch for yet but some buses have a few windows that move. Some seem like all windows move.

I think about this while driving though old railroad towns that are no longer needed. Also interesting to see the houses/land for sale in places that burned in, for example, the sierra foothills. It looks hard to sell an expensive vacation house when there's not much of a town left around it.

There's an issue with mustard oil where according to the FDA it isn't safe for consumption. As a result some Indian people I know buy oil that's sold for external use only at the grocery store. We've been told certain restaurants are better because they use the correct (not for consumption) oil.

It's not like war, or random distributed violence with a clear cause. A pandemic is overwhelming in a way that's hard to understand. Even from a distance, like 100 years. But it's also hard to understand while it's happening because it's happening to you, your neighbors, and places far from home.

Feels like there was lots of trauma from not being able to go to the bar, or hairdresser, or send the kids to school..And the loss of neighbors/family can get handwaved away if it's inconvenient. At least for some. It's hard to have a good marker that resonates in 100-500 years like hungerstones.

I've mentioned to friends that one way spike strips might be the only functional way to control traffic when people disregard seemingly obvious road features. In the same area while sitting in traffic I watched someone drive the wrong way to get on 520-E. I guess hoping for no oncoming traffic?

An egregious one I saw on a ride was someone crossing over and driving towards oncoming cars to make this illegal (and not very useful) left turn. I highlighted the curb since it's not clear from google maps but it's one narrow lane in each direction with a hard curb divider.

I like finding out new things where I live. One of my neighbors recently told me many chimneys nearby are covered from an earthquake in the 60s. Another woman told me about how her corner used to be a gas station and she still finds stuff in her garden years later. Some people are less into it.
