Tough question! I think a window fits my style more - having the illusion of safety behind the pane, but it’s a border that can break and expose you to “the outside.” However, horror is often a lens with which we can examine ourselves and society as a whole, much like a mirror. #HorrorWritersChat
I would say “domestic betrayal” - my themes are things like survival, resilience, and horror from the outside in: aliens, parasitism, collapse, starvation, uncanny biology. I don’t often delve into things like family drama, the lover who sabotages you, etc.; Something to improve! #HorrorWritersChat

Writing is funny because both my biggest brightest dream and stomach churning dread is having people read my book.
I’m still using placeholder names for my draft, but I’ve also thought of the characters with those names for so long I might end up keeping them 😅
Start something new that dovetails into another of your story universes and connect them in some way!
This was the hardest lesson I had to learn when finishing my draft; you have to accept that it’s going to suck. Embrace the fact that your draft is gonna be shit. Making it good is part of editing, the key to finishing a draft is to just get the story out of your head and onto the page.

Read a recent #archaeology article about #tattoos discovered on a 2500 y/o ice mummy and an artist reproduced one. I’m almost tempted to get something similar! The tattoo depicts tigers and a leopard hunting elk or caribou. The amount of detail from bone needles and plant ash is incredible! #history

Oh I have lots of these from living near LA. Best two are the time I did a “you-first-no-you” dance w/ Halle Berry in a narrow hallway at Fred Segals, and then once saw Kirsten Dunst at a restaurant and she had her bodyguard clear the men’s room for her to use because the ladies room had a line, lol

Yeah I feel like it’s a 60/40 kinda thing. I love those moments though when the story takes on a life of its own and you make choices you weren’t planning but just feel right.
Are you a “planner” or a “pantser” when developing your story? I do “flashlight method” - I have a map that shows me landmarks and a destination (my outline) but the flashlight allows wandering or discovery along the way. Heading towards a goal but leaving room for whimsy. #writing #writingcommunity

I haven’t tried that but for me hobbies are intrinsically tied to “vibes” as a prerequisite. I have to be in a very specific mood to feel like painting or coloring. Writing I do have to force myself though otherwise it won’t get done lol
Taking time away from the project keeps perspectives fresh, I’ve found. When you’re working on something 24/7 details can get lost because you see them or think about them so often you stop noticing them.

One thing I’ve noticed lately is people seem to start with worldbuilding and the plot is a secondary concern. There will be deeply planned magic systems, lore, kingdoms and other settings… but little story to work with, or the story that’s present is very derivative; chosen one, elemental magic, etc
