Argos are terrible for it, too, because their deliveries are also based on the store being the dispatch hub. Had a nightmare trying to buy a phone a few years back because I couldn't order it in store, nor online because I didn't have a phone for the collection notification to go to.
Boring answer is that they've not figured out the "central hub for online orders" rather than sending it from the nearest store. Logistics can be a bugger. The places who think they've found the smartest or most efficient "bricks and clicks" solution always end up disappointing the customer.
