I loved seasons 1 and 2; aside from 1 or 3 episodes, season 3 was unwatchable. I can't figure out what happened! Did the show team know they were going to be canceled when they were writing S3, so they gave up? Or was the show canceled because the TPTB saw the S3 episodes and knew shark was jumped?
Just read it again; it didn't hold up well. It was super-genius and mind blowing back when it came out; now it's kind of a slog. A lot of the boundaries that it pushed aren't there anymore, he did his job too well.

Thank you! That explanation makes no sense at all; but does completely explain everything! I recently jumped back in to DC comics after a 20 hiatus, and it feels like a direct continuation of the Bronze Age w/ every other continuity (both pre and post crisis) acknowledged and incorporated.

Firefox used to be a responsible browser designed to help the user against evil corporations. They sold out a while ago, and I'm tired of always having to battle antagonistic software. (This seems to be a feature of the 21st century) Is there a replacement??? (For the browser, not the century)
OK, I just looked through my PG collection and my Supergirl 2025 collection. Streaky is consistently referred to as "he", "his," "him". Maybe the people at dc.fandom.com don't read those titles? Still no mention of an origin, though.
Whoops, sorry - I misread the year. They agree with your blog, 2017.
I just checked dc.fandom.com - they consistently use the pronoun "she" in the articles, but have no origin for her. So either Streaky changed genders in one of the many reboots, or the site editors are misinformed. They say the current version first appeared in 2011.

That was really good, thanks! A small thing and I don't know if this has ever been explained. What is the new/current origin for Streaky? I've only read the original, with the X-Kryptonite origin, which left him (he was always 'he' at that point) gaining and losing his powers on a per-story basis.

This was phobic by the show's own rules, which it had set up earlier in the episode; and this kind of thing is unfortunately a not uncommon trans experience. All I can say is, the universe better watch out when her egg cracks!

I agree that seeing this story as a trans allegory is not what it was trying to be about. But I entirely disagree with their genetics-makes-personality premise. Michael Burnham was exteremely Vulcan, that was because of her upbringing and education, not genetics. These 4 didn't have that...
In fact, for a while, I thought one of them would decide to stay changed and become a series villain. Would have actually fit canon.
Answering would get into spoilers, don't know if that's appropriate. But yes, it was along the lines of "if any of them had ever expressed a desire to be this (species) then of course they should stay (this way)." The original assumption was, in fact, to support their changes (a pro-trans culture).
I'd be curious to know your opinion. After the slew of dumpster fires this season, I thought this episode was a return to form and one of only a few episodes so far worth watching.
I had a different take-away than OP. I am a trans woman and did not consider this ep to be phobic at all; but I can see that interpretation. The writers also seemed aware of the possibility and put in a few lines of dialogue to explain how this is different. I also did not see a groomer. A fun ep.๐

In short, their interpretation = "white man erased"; this fear is what the whole movement feeds, inflames, and is built on.
My guess: by removing the image of the barrel and of the white man, they are seen as contributing to the erosion (ie, the attack on) pre-civil rights white southern culture. So although this has nothing to do with racism, to them it's in the same bucket as statues and sports team names.
I actually wouldn't mind if Galaxy showed up in more comics! It was really fun to see @nicoleamaines.bsky.social's take in BAD DREAM: A DREAMER STORY. And if @mooncalfe1.bsky.social wanted Galaxy to show up in an issue of SUPERGIRL, that would be incredible!

I seem to remember seeing penguins in a shot of Gene Hackman near the fortress near the end of one the Superman films? (possibly a deleted scene from Superman II); Maybe Gunn moved the fortress to the antarctic for continuity with that scene. Or it's a post-Crisis DCU thing, which did happen.
I assume they are negotiating how to divide up Alaska, Greenland, and the Ukraine (and possibly coming up with a joint Canada plan for down the line). The political posturing is just the public front. Gotta get that gas and oil!
