There's also a moment of realization. Sometimes you just start doing the math and then realization hits that it's a crit. I find Daggerheart crits really satisfying ... and I'm GMing.

... Huh. This jives with my limited report of our first session at level 2. No one has gotten upgraded equipment yet, but the Seraph has taken the Bare Bones domain card, and there is a stark difference in how it's hard to scratch the Seraph's paint while the other PCs are taking serious hits.

Weird to put on Spaceships, but Romulans and Klingons do have Cloaking devices. This is a stretch, I don't see cloak coming back. I'd expect Ward/Hexproof/Shroud to model cloaking.
And while I'd expect the Borg to be more in Esper colours, we did get the Simic mechanic of Adapt
Of course, the motto of the show and the nature of the Federation is right there with the Explore mechanic. Edge of Eternities even uses planets as lands. Also Warp, lol.

So, Edge of Eternities has proven #MTG can do space, and given that the big UB franchises out there are Star Trek and Star Wars, it's only a matter of time before we get those crossover sets. But what amuses me is that a Star Trek set can almost be made entirely of pre-existing mechanics.

I prefer the tactical challenge of whether to "lower the shields" or not to station, as frustrating as it might be. Whether the power level was hit or not, hopefully it'll be good info for the inevitable Star Trek or Star Wars UB sets.
I've only played Dauntless Scrapbot once, but I'm very impressed. This card will probably replace every Burnished Hart in the majority of my decks.
And the evil Lord's other ally is a Witch intent on corrupting the enchanted (Sherwood, but not) forest the party takes refuge in. The party thwarted an attempt to infect the forest with dark magic last session, so the Witch will have to change their plans.
I've set up a nemesis knight for one PC, and that there will be a celebration in the knight's honor on their return to the city, so what could also happen there?
The obvious one is a riff on the archery tournament ... party needs to infiltrate the city, some could compete, but I need a few ways to engage the players that aren't.
So, my Daggerheart campaign is a Robin Hood setup: evil Lord/Sheriff, noble outlaws (the party), and I'm brainstorming some more scenarios for the party, especially less combat-centric ones.

Or alternatively, because we can work on different timescales, if a PC is trying to wrestle a guard into submission, we can make a couple of action rolls to simulate that. This makes the Guards HP more of a countdown timer, can they run through them before failing an action roll raising an alarm?
This is where I'd be tempted to step outside of the statblock and simply say "Fiction First" and let the PC roll for that. Or to emphasize a specific class, like a Rogue, say the PC gets the knockout if they can score a Severe hit.
I ran a Flickerfly against the party, and it was quite fun getting them to describe the various fears the Flickerfly was drawing out of them.
The more I understand how to cheat at accounting, the harder it is to find any kind of big business success that can’t be explained by having a hidden line item where costs were dumped to appear to create growth from nowhere.

Edge of Eternities prerelease went ok. 2-1 by playing a lot of removal. Warp is super fun, spacecraft seem ... challenging? I dunno, felt like I was able to beat down on opponents that spent too much time stationing their craft.

Last night's Dumpster Raccoon screening of Flash Gordon was another great night. Though I am going to have "Flash! Ahaaa" and "Not the bore worms" stuck in my head for the foreseeable future

The biggest takeaway from last night's Daggerheart session is that playing without initiative does work, and it might be hard for me to go back. There was a fluidity of play that felt freeing.
So ... Daggerheart may have just become my TTRPG of choice. Like it just really sang for me and group, and I really had fun.
