It doesn’t help the conservation, but it is generally dismissive of people who don’t use the preferred gun pronouns - aka the side of the debate that doesn’t love gun culture.
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m quite comfortable with exactly what I’ve said - in the wake of yet another shooting (and I’ll add that I’ve been in a mass shooting in America) I find it truly offensive when people publicly eye-roll about a lack of technical precision in the broader general gun discourse- 1/2
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
No, the original constitution doesn’t say that - the 2nd amendment says that - “amendment”. It was added to the constitution in the exact same way other things can and have been added to the constitution. The entire concept is to have a “living document” that adapts to changing times and growth
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
So hard that almost every country has managed? This is not so complicated that it can’t be done. That also wasn’t my point - the law can be as precise as it needs to be - you on the other hand, have no reason to chide strangers about your superior gun knowledge when they are just sick of dead kids
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
A gun isn’t a citizen or a person - it’s a weapon of war that has been regulated in almost every other civilized society. Other weapons with similar effects can be similarly regulated. This isn’t a problem that can’t be solved. It’s just a question of will and personal sacrifice.
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
I just don’t see the need to inject this same argument into every obvious tragedy - trying to minimize or disparage people’s outrage because you find fault in their technical understanding of a firearm - I can’t say I respect it
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
And a bill that specifically regulates the ar15 doesn’t need to list all of the technical specs - it can just ban the gun because of its effects on society and the many bodies it has torn up. I get so annoyed with this spurious, tedious noise. “It’s an armalite, not assault blah de fucking blah”
dave with a g (@davidg.bsky.social) reply parent
Call it a ham sandwich for all I care, let’s just regulate the goddamn things so we don’t have to keep watching kids getting murdered every week - very few of us care about precise gun nomenclature, it’s really just the constant murders that bother us
