And Dalton may have been the most perfectly cast Bond ever, but he ended up with two oddball movies. Living Daylights was the first post HIV/AIDS Bond movie, so that was the one-woman "safe sex" Bond-- no bad girl triangle. Licence To Kill, he's off the reservation-- more Lethal Weapon than Bond.
And they didn't exactly get better as they went along. 😬
When I was a teenager, I got to watch him get shafted out of the Bond role by NBC over Remington Steele. At least I got to see him play it eventually. Really wanted him to do it back then.

I think HE (Brosnan) does, but his movies don't. For example, Die Another Day had a fantastic opening, with him getting burned in North Korea, and he made that work. The rest of the movie was a goofy travesty that he couldn't do anything about. Goldeneye holds up; the rest, not as much, IMO.
