I hope people realize how absolutely fucked this situation is. This isn’t normal. People are resigning all over the place because the government is mishandling our data, ruining our public health services, and generally making Americans less safe.
The only thing we can ‘do’ to stop this is mass, sustained protests. I’m talking protests that are big enough to impact the economy. Folks who aren’t on political social media don’t think it’s bad enough for that yet, though, and I honestly question whether we have the attention span for it at all.
I think Vance taking over is actually best case scenario (other than a meteor…). The GOP doesn’t respect him. There’s no cult like following. They don’t fear him, etc. Vance would likely have an extremely milquetoast presidency.
A metric fuck ton. All those ‘Russian businessmen’ were almost certainly walking surveillance devices. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we eventually find concealed micro cameras, listening devices, etc. There’s so much important technology in Alaska - early warning, missile defense, etc.

On the current trajectory, I think we will have a strong majority in the House. Normal caveats apply - no getting complacent. The Senate isn’t *impossible* but it’s a tougher get for midterms. It would have to be a catastrophic election for the GOP to lose the Senate. But that should be our goal.

I’ve thought about this several times. I fear that it’s only a matter of time before there’s a ‘stand your ground’ scenario in these arrests. It would be hard to convict them, too - these arrests look a lot more like kidnapping than law enforcement activity.

Theoretically, no, no they can’t. I think it will be harder than they are anticipating to fire anywhere near as many civil servants as they want, but everyone I’m talking to is still pretty nervous. It’s terrible for morale at the very least.
First and foremost, we have to remember that we can’t - and shouldn’t - resist everything. Pick your battles to make it meaningful. That said, when it’s time to protest, we need them to be MASSIVE. Read banned books. Prepare for the midterms. Don’t let Congress off the hook - email your reps.
