Educators, have been screaming about the problems w/ grading systems instilling external motivation in even the best students & churning out nothing but Machiavellis to reach ends. Capitalism can’t understand intrinsic motivation, so our culture opts for forklifts, not weight training.
The issue is that the students aren’t rewarded for the work; they’re rewarded for moving the weights. Legislation like the Grad Act which base funding on graduation rates & standardised test scores just makes administrators care only about “moving the weights” no matter the cost. 1/2
