They banned plastic straws to save the turtles, and then quietly approved seven major coal mine expansions in just 90 days, locking in enough carbon to double Australia’s annual emissions. That’s like quitting heroin… and replacing it with a full-blown meth habit. #auspol #ClimateCrisis

6. “Elections are won from the centre” is a mantra used to try to block challenges from the left. It says “you can’t win if you want to change the system”. It ignores the fact that first the neoliberals and now the far right have completely transformed – in some respects replaced - the system.

None of this is about developing nuclear electricity generation. None of this is about reducing our electricity bills. All of this is about extending the profitability of the fossil fuel industry by delaying renewable generation. It’s cynical, self serving and corrupt. #AusPol

In the fight against slavery abolitionists eventually prevailed over slave owners. The fight wasnt won in the sensible centre but by ‘extremists’ who risked everything to save the lives of others. It scares me to think how the ABC would cover such a debate today. theconversation.com/friday-essay...

I think it was when we changed the tax system and halved the tax on capital gain…imagine taxing passive income from investing at half the rate we tax wages and salaries… And all those rich kids inheriting all those multimillion super balances rather than working to earn their own money… bludgers!

Why are productivity gains considered so important when the rewards from the gains end up in the pockets of the rich and powerful who clearly dont need them?

Do you know how insane and infuriating it is to live in a country where one party claims, with media and public support, the mantle of being the ‘tough on crime’ party while its leader openly calls for convicted criminals to be released from prison ‘or else’?
