Authorities should not rely on citizens to assert their rights but should proactively ensure those rights are respected.
Immigration agencies should have a "minors and families first" directive that dictates that enforcement actions should not separate children from their parents, and that any enforcement involving a minor must be handled with extreme caution and with the child's best interest as the primary concern.
The government should have a strict, enforceable policy that prohibits immigration enforcement actions at or near schools, hospitals, places of worship, and other sensitive locations, including public parks where children gather.
