I agree highlighting edge social causes is a losing strategy, but culture war issues are intended to distract us from what actually matters. When the Democrats fight the culture war they lose.
I'd say the right pisses people off about it, and the Democrats just lay there and take it instead of reminding people that they can't afford daycare and are living check to check.

Democrats trying to win over Trump voters is a fools errand. It points them away from the center of energy in the party and depresses turnout. Big donor interests are not well aligned with very popular things like national healthcare, so the party keeps trying to win over GOPers instead.
