As Michael gets at in this thread, the real problem was a lack of major investment in education. When schools necessarily closed, families were left to handle it on their own. Blue states should have created outdoor programs for kids to socialize and learn safely. Ah, but that would have cost money.
This ‘blue states closed schools too long’ narrative is becoming increasingly entrenched in the Polite Center but it’s arguable at best. Republican states had far more deaths during COVID and their students have roughly comparable learning loss.

Here in Baltimore this morning, where clergy and activists have gathered in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who is set to check in with ICE this morning. Heavy faith presence in addition to, just, a lot of people for 6:45am. Kilmar himself is about to speak.
Kilmar is speaking now. Speaking in Spanish, notes he was able to reunite with his family, saying, “This was a miracle. Thank you to God and thank you to the community power.” Thanks various groups and orgs involved, and thanks God for giving him blessings.
