The beauty of crochet is you can frog it and start all over if you like. I have done this many times, including today. I did not like the basket weave with a new project. The yarn wasn't finishing well. So I frogged 2 hours of work and now started on a lovely shell pattern.
Keep trying... go back over attaching back into your corners. This looks tons better than my first attempt! Don't lose spirit. I will try to come up with an easier join pattern for you.grandma ran yarn back and forth through the outer edges to connect.

I too was a florist. Fire and ice tend to be white and pink, these are a yellow and pink. Closest I have seen online are Enchanted Peach but this rose was from my grandmother's garden that was planted over 50 years ago. Not sure what she had growing back there. lol

Kind of a scallop edge but not quite.
The edging pulls together ever so gently where I make the corners tighter. This gives a lovely finish to the edges and a slight bowing out for each square. Kind of a ripple edge effect. You don't see it till the very end. Hence why I make that slight change to the edge pattern.

Grandma Ruth was an amazing lady. She did not crochet much but she was well known for her quilts and clothes. My mom crocheted but she was right-handed. As a Southpaw she found it difficult to teach. So after years of watching I learned to mirror. Funnily I still crochet backwards.
Agreed, the other patterns I have seen used seems to be too heavy and leaves the blanket feeling... odd. This was grandma Ruth's stitch to join. I have tweaked it a little bit but this was her main granny join pattern. So glad I could be of assistance to you.
