I think we are saying the same thing. I mean as long as you don't go crazy, some debt (mortgage, 1 car loan, etc) is good. By context I meant that. The meme is trying to imply all debt is bad. But debt helps people move up SES ladder if kept under control
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
But this doesn't say national debt. It says debt. So I am assuming it is adding up all individual debt into one big pile. It is trying to say we are all idiots for getting in so much more debt than before, but this is taken way out of context. In manageable amounts debt is good.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Debt allows us to invest in the future. Most large companies and start ups and major inventions would not exist w/o debt. You need loans to build the factory before you can begin making your widgets to start making money.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Debt is also good. It allows people to attain things that would normally be beyond their means. I bought a house for $350k on money I got from a bank. I am paying it off $2k a month. If I had to save that to pay in cash w/o debt, now 15 years later I still would not own a house.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Hopefully he gets a chance in the second preseason game. If he doesn't play preseason then why did they draft him? He won't play all regular season and so won't ever get a chance to prove himself.

This season he has a 3.48 ERA over 119 innings (probably about half of those 33 starts). He had been quite good. (1.96 over the last month) however, he only had 3 wins on the season. So, mostly this stat is showing how he is a good pitcher on a bad team. He was not quite as good last year.

Well, if they smell flip then they should try hard to not run a second GOP candidate. His chance of winning is getting all the R votes and hope the others split the Ds. If they also split the Rs I don't see them winning.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I think the real message is let the people decide the candidate and don't have the DNC try to decide for them (like they tried to do with Cuomo) . Mamdani might be right for NY but would never win a purple district. That's fine. Let them find the candidate right for them.

Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I can agree with everything you said except the last part. If you think they can't let it go now what do you think they would be like if we executed their leaders? We would still be literally fighting that war.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I suppose. It is physically easier to beat someone not resisting, but mentally much harder to do. Very easy to justify to yourself you are right if they fight back... Very hard to justify if they are just standing there.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I never said they won't try to paint protestors as violent, but that means you have to try even harder to NOT be. That was what MLK and Gandhi preached. The more they yell and call them violent to more you know it is working and making them mad.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, they did and it did work for a while, but after Selma when the videos all showed police beating non-resistant protesters opinion swung in their favor. Images if people just passively standing there getting beat is very powerful.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Yea, I get that. But if you are a Christian then it was a Jewish temple to the same God that would shortly become the Christian God. The point was to replace Judaism with a new religion around Christ. So, depends on your point of view as to whether he had authority or not.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, to me they are both made up stories so I still see it as it depends on which one you chose to believe.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
It depends on how much of the story you believe. According to the Bible it's the same God and He changed things by having a Son. Jesus was a Jew meant to change the relationship between God and the Jews and so that would be His temple. If you are Jewish I guess you believe differently.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
You mean the Jewish God? The God that Temple is for? If that God sent his Son down to earth I would think He had authority.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
The Ds should have had this as a pillar of their campaign and policy platforms for 20yrs. Instead they hid in the sand and tried to ignore the issue because it was too favorable to the Rs. We helped bring this on by seeding the issue to the Rs.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, I suppose if he was referring to God, according to the Bible believers he kinda had authority over everything. Which actually makes this analogy a bit sticky and probably not the best.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Destructive protest is counter productive to the cause. It gives Miller and MAGA talking points and Memes. We need to tske the MLK and Gandhi non-violent resistance approach. Winning over public opinion of as many Americans as possible is the key. Violence and destruction wl hurt that cause.

Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, sure. I am not going to forgive them for their idiocy the last 30 years. Just that people saying "what are they doing?" is expecting too much from the party out of power with a fascist in office.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, where do you want them to publicize that they aren't? I can find MSNBC stories, NY Times stories. Pod save America, Meidastouch, etc. But they are only consumed by a small number of voters. They people you want to know these things don't consume news media so will never see it.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
2/2 they tune in for other things and get political news on the side. You can't create that kind of coverage over night. To reach these voters takes time and effort. Maybe they aren't doing enough, but to say they aren't doing anything is disingenuous
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I am not going to totally defend them... Some are very bad at this, but Rs took 30 yrs to get what they have. Low info voters by definition don't directly consume news so you have to trick them into the info. That doesn't happen over night. Most of Rogan's shoe is not political. 1/2
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
And do what? They have no power to stop anything. There have been hundreds of lawsuits which do nothing. What Do are you looking for?
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
I do agree, BTW, that Biden was too coy on his messaging. Needed to talk more about what he was doing as he was doing it, but I think that is because they were trying to hide his physical decline and how his speaking ability was not what it used to be.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh, and several will probably be in the Sunday shows tomorrow talking about this as well... So, what else?
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Aaand... How would you like them to get this message out to people who don't consume news? I have seen them on MSNBC and heard interviews on podcasts. I can find you Bluesky posts and X tweets from dozens of Ds... So, what would YOU like them to do?
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Actually they are probably at home doing town halls and talking to their voters. But these local speeches don't break through because the Ds don't have a Fox News of the left. What would you have them do? Where do you want them to talk that will reach you and everyone else?
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
What would you like them to do? I can find you a dozen videos or podcasts of Ds talking about this and similar issues. Just because you dot see it doesn't mean they aren't talking. Ds don't have the media reach the Rs took 30 yrs to build. Can't just snap fingers and make it appear on your phone.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
2/2. There is also a knowledge divide. The more people pay attention to the news and get their news from media the more likely they were to vote Harris. The less informed the more likely a Trump voter. Ds need better messaging. Don't insult the low inform voter who was desperate to get a better life
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
If you mean the hard core MAGA who voted for him 3x and have his face tattooed on their ass... Call them whatever name you want. If it is the poor guy who has been screwed by the system and voted for him hoping for a better fate, well Ds need to find a better way to reach him. 1/2
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Correct. Steven Miller is actually running the show. Trump is just there to grift and hide the real power behind the curtain.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. Some defense will eventually figure out how to slow it down... there is no stopping it. It is a short yardage play which almost by definition is going to have high % success. It is only 1 yard after all. Normal QB sneak has high success rate too.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
So what do you want teams to do on short yardage situations? Only do fun plays? End of the day 3rd and 1 lends itself to very boring conservative plays because those are the ones that work. I formation up the middle is boring too, but that's how you get first down... So what are you looking for?
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Yea, I am curious... What makes it dumb? End of the day it is just another form of QB sneak.

You can agree with what he did, that's fine. I am torn on whether it was the right thing to do or not, but trying to distinguish between voting to advance the bill but not vote for it is silly.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
A distinction without a difference. The bill still passed because he voted to advance it.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course not. Anyone who thought there was a realistic chance they were taking a QB in the first round was not paying attention. The draft class did not really have any franchise QBs and they were not going to reach for one again. They likely take a back up later and get a franchise guy next year.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
This is why I made a point of saying "the way it is worded..." because I didn't know the actual details of the encounter, just the way it was written in the article. The article makes it sound like she didn't do things right. Thus, MAGA can defend FBI. Perception is more important than reality.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent
The problem is that how this is worded you can read it as she behaved wrongly. She "lied to federal agents" and so MAGA will see it as the FBI did the right thing. They didn't arrest her for doing judge stuff but for lying to them. Just gray area enough to give them cover with Trump voters.
Brian Patterson (@docbp95.bsky.social) reply parent

I had a lot of fun in college, but wouldn't say it was a 4 year party. I also worked hard. But, I learned as much out of class in clubs, conferences, speakers, living on my own in a safe environment, etc. That it was a very valuable experience beyond just what I got in class. 1/2

If Trump were impeached and actually removed (big if) then it would massively disrupt everything. The GOP would dissolve into infighting and Elon is gone. They all don't like each other and stay together because of Trump's will. JD doesn't have that. Total chaos insues without trump.
