The propaganda machine regarding national Healthcare and gun laws are the two where the most time and money are invested, penetrating deeply into American culture, in every socio-economic it has permeated into the very fabric of life. I Work in healthcare, it is entrenched even there.
To be fair, passports are expensive and require quite a bit if paperwork to obtain...since Travel outside of the US is also expensive there a great many people who will never be ABLE to obtain a passport. I Get your point, but it's something to consider.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Rossiter, who told the stories of the many forgotten and underappreciated women of science. Like many women of her generation, she survived academia by developing a tough exterior, but her support for jr women, myself included, was unwavering. RIP, Margaret.
