I was watching behind-the-scenes on The Prophecy and apparently Viggo Mortensen was a last-minute replacement for the role of Lucifer when Malcolm McDowell dropped out to be in Star Trek. It’s funny that a similar circumstance would lead to him playing Aragorn just a few years later. #filmsky 📽️

Just saw an AI commercial and it was awful.
Here’s a neat story. In 2018, I got to see Robert Wickens race in #Indycar before the big wreck that paralyzed him. 2 years ago I saw him in the Indycar paddock at Mid-Ohio. This year I got to see him return to a top racing series in #IMSA at Road America.
Alright, that was decent. Not extraordinary, but probably the best since Shang-chi. It’s really just impossible to recapture the heyday of the MCU so decent is what we must hope for.

There are tv shows where I end up not caring about the plot, I just love being in the world and being with the characters. I always hold up Lost Girl as the example cause oh boy did that have some stupid plotlines, but I still loved the characters to the end. Strange New Worlds is also one of those.

Having the slightly crazy notion of attending the Long Beach Grand Prix next year. If I can make it work without renting a car it seems feasible.

The last big stop on my summer road trip was the Strategic Aird Command Museum just outside Omaha, Nebraska. They tons of interesting planes here, including rare ones like an SR-71 Blackbird, a B-17 and a B-29.

Glad it’s #F1 race week again finally. The summer break drags on and on, and IMO the reason is not because the teams have taken a break, it’s because the “news” sites refuse to, and there’s nothing going on so they just make shit up.
Stopped for lunch in Galena, Illinois, there’s a house here that was gifted to Ulysses S. Grant after he won the Civil War, plus a lot of other neat old buildings.
Time to get back into Foundation. I hadn’t finished season 2, but I feel like starting at the beginning. Going to read the books too.

It amuses me that I’ve been to two #Indycar races and they were won by Scott Dixon and Alex Palou. The Old Master and the New Master.
I’ve noticed over the years there are a lot of people who seem to think “if this thing I don’t like fails, they’ll make something I like” when it’s far more likely they just won’t make anything at all. This was particularly prevalent in the early days of Discovery.
Herta was lucky not to get collected there.

If I had a Time Machine I’d go back to the 60s and visit whatever Star Trek writer it was who established racism as a Vulcan societal trait and tell him to stop. Racism is not logical.

I’ve been slowly getting any movie and tv series I bought digitally on physical media, regardless of quality. I just ordered Hellboy 2019 and when it gets here it’ll definitely be the worst 4K in my collection. Whatever, it was cheap and I can check it off the list. #filmsky 📽️

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds delivers another banger.
Spent 3 days walking all over Road America. My feet hurt after, but it was well worth it. It’s a great facility with so many good places to watch from.

Reason 2 to visit the harbor was to watch the ferry from Michigan come in.
There were two reasons I wanted to visit the Manitowoc harbor. The first was to walk out to this lighthouse.
After the museum it was off to the harbor, which has some great parks and walking trails.
First morning in Manitowoc I went to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. Lots of great displays on shipbuilding and shipwrecks. They also have a World War II submarine.
Arrive pe in Manitowoc, where I’d be staying the weekend, and I wanted to go see Lake Michigan. Silver Creek Park (also a disc golf course) on the south end of the town was a perfect spot for that.
Watched Kurasawa’s “High and Low” last night and it was damn good. Toshiro Mifune is becoming one of those actors that it doesn’t matter what the rest of the movie is, it’s just a pleasure watching him work. But also in this case the rest of the film is top notch. #filmsky 📽️
Another fun stop in Wisconsin was the Sheboygan Marsh Tower near Elkhart Lake. A lot of steps, but a great view from the top, even with the wildfire smoke.
Portage, Wisconsin, where I got off I-90 to head northeast there was a nice park, a convenient place to stop for lunch and get some pictures of the Wisconsin River.

On I-90 there’s a nice Wisconsin welcome center in the town of La Crosse. There the Mississippi River gets real wide here with a bunch of islands forming a wetlands area.
Behold! The fabulous Corn Palace of Mitchell, South Dakota. The artwork on the outside of this event venue is literally made of corn and is changed every year.
Definitely on my watch list, it looked interesting.

In Chamberlain, South Dakota, there’s a nice restaurant area on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. It has an amazing huge statue called Dignity of Earth and Sky.
Moving on east across South Dakota on I-90, I pulled over a glimpse of Badlands National Park.
The reason I picked Hot Springs as a stop was I wanted to visit the Mammoth Site again. It’s an active dig site with a museum built around it. It contains the fossils of more than 60 mammoths that fell into an ancient sinkhole.

I’ve finally had time to mostly look through my road trip pictures, so it’s time to post some! First stop was Fort Robinson in the Nebraska Panhandle. It’s has an infamous history. The small brown building is where Crazy Horse was killed. Still an interesting place to visit. Well preserved.
"The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail" might be my favorite episode of Strange New Worlds. It had everything: danger, levity, character and team moments, radical solutions, discussions about command and morality. Not quite sure if it eclipses "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow", but it's close. #StarTrek

I’m enjoying the Criterion Channel’s 24/7 channel. It’s nice to turn on for an half hour or whatever after work to unwind. Takes me back t9 the days when I had regular TV. So far I’ve seen parts of The Vanishing and Black Narcissus, and Chungking Express just came on. #filmsky 📽️
Hell of a double feature though.
Rashomon was interesting, but I don’t think I would rate it higher than the other Kurosawa films I’ve seen (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro). I think High & Low might be next on my list. #filmsky 📽️
