Hi. Not in this case. I don’t like steeking, so I knit this cardigan back and forth, holding 1 color in each hand. On the wrong side row I had to purl w/ each hand, and had to learn to strand colors on RSR and WSR w/ each hand. Slow going at 1st!

Absolutely! I made over 20 of their shawls (some repeats) that I sold on my Etsy site to benefit St Jude’s. No mistakes in the patterns and all lovely beyond words. I’m so mad at Etsy for their cowardice. I’ll find another site and get more sold. I just love making their shawls.

I love it! Check out Anna Victoria on Ravelry. I’ve knit a dozen of her patterns and they’re creative and reliable. Almost all of them use beads, and a couple have 2 different color beads. It’s fun finding just the right match of yarn and beads!
It’s the Solar Sea lace shawl by Anna Victoria. I wasn’t sure whether cotton would work for lace, but it really shows the lacework. I bought the same in black/white, and I’m getting topaz beads go go with it. Thanks for the good advice re selling it. I’m mad at Etsy. I assume they’re afraid of DKT!

I try to be tolerant of the needs of politicians, but I get a zillion requests for money from every dem pol in every corner of the country, so I’m starting to block texts and emails from the DNC. I’m tapped out as far as donations go, and it’s making me ready to turn my back on the party altogether.
I did! And I left a message for anyone who checks the site explaining why I’m on ‘vacation’. I haven’t had any luck finding a good alternative.
Maybe eventually they’ll get rid of them entirely. Meanwhile, I’ll just keep my store empty and ‘on vacation’ with a message to viewers explaining Etsy’s immorality. Thanks for checking!
I just checked on line and supposedly Etsy is taking down the AA merch, but they said that they’re being replaced by ‘bots’, whatever that means 🤪. Could you possibly check it out? I wasn’t able to find any AA merch on their site, but I’m pretty inept at negotiating these things!

I just sent off my last order. There are no shawls listed on my shop and I’ll follow your lead and keep it empty until they ban the hate items. It’s just like knitting. You & I may just be a couple of stitches, but keep adding them, and pretty soon you have an afghan.

I hear you. My knitting, especially complicated lace patterns, works like yoga for me. The intense concentration, the repetition, the need for balance. Each yarn over must be balanced by a decrease, sometimes leaning left, sometimes right. It brings me peace.

Go for it! On each Etsy listing I explain that I donate the yarn/beads & my time. When a shawl is sold, I donate the equivalent amount to the charity & print a receipt for the donation. When I send the shawl I include a copy of the receipt so the buyer knows their purchase money went to the charity.

I couldn’t agree more! I recently learned a fun factoid. The lace doilies that graced chairs were sometimes called antimacassars. They prevented the macassar oil that men used to style their hair from staining the backs of the chairs. Amazing that such exquisite works had such a banal origin.

It’s in a book of Estonian patterns called ‘The Haapsalu Shawk’ by Siiri Reimann & Aime Edasi. They give general instructions on how to make an Estonian shawl, but you have to do some planning to make the one you want. It’s not hard. Good luck!
