Friday is the deadline for nonprofits to apply for The Oregonian's Season of Sharing campaign! All nonprofits that serve Oregon/SW Washington are encouraged to apply, but we are particularly focused this year on those facing financial uncertainty because of government funding cuts.

I spent several days in central Oregon talking to folks in tiny towns, where everyone said the two biggest issues were water systems and wildfires. Then, in Prineville, I passed a bunch of fireworks stands. Someone please explain why banning fireworks isn't a nonpartisan thing for Oregon.

The stairwells in the parking lots are absolutely horrible. 100% avoid those. Park by the Barnes & Noble. Inside the mall is totally normal. But, you know, places that serve as incubators for artists/startups/bohemian vibes are never in the fancy parts of town.
Have you heard? Lloyd Center is cool now. It's like Portland's weird business incubator.
Saturday is Bulk Trash Pickup Day for the north half of Milwaukie, so if you are in the market for some free furniture, patio chairs and what have you, there’s a TON of it already sitting out on curbs across the city ripe for the pickin’!

This makes two guys I've interviewed who told me they fell off a roof, decided construction wasn't for them, and went on to found long-standing, beloved stores on the Oregon coast dedicated to physical media: Bob at Robert's Bookshop and Neal at Video Horizons in Astoria.

For decades it's been in a closet, but for the next month, the Log Lady's log is on display in Portland.
I'm slowly easing into this bike thing. I didn't want to invest in an e-bike if I just wasn't going to feel safe biking at all. If it turns out the hill is the only thing stopping me, that would be great. (If we had more separated bike lanes, I definitely would have gotten one!)
